Tomorrow an attendance record will be set for a sporting event in the US.

It may not be what you are expecting :wink2:

Manchester United is playing Real Madrid at the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor and the attendance will be 109,000 ^&cool

Two friends of mine, and my stepson have tickets for the game and will be on the road early morning to get there.
Such an attendance is a surprise indeed.

Wow Brad! Would've never imagined... Yep, no doubt football (or more correctly in this case, soccer) is getting more popular in the US!

I'm jealous! I'm sure they will have a great time. I thought about it but that is too far to go.

I just saw that on the Real Madrid site, the coach said that no match against Manchester United is friendly.

Let's hope the match lives up to the hype.

I'm not surprise at the crowd size; they're two of the biggest teams in the world, with tons of supporters in this country.

Yes, who would have thought Carlos. I'm anxiously awaiting the match!

Brad,
I'll certainly be watching it too from here, and also cheering for Real Madrid!

That's a lot of footie fans Brad! I saw at the IWM yesterday that just before WW1 there ws an FA Cup final that drew 120,000{eek3}

An incredible crowd and a very good performance by Man U but a very poor performance by Real in every aspect and you have to be worried about the goalkeeper. The only good thing you can say is that their summer signings plus DiMaria and Benzema haven't joined the team yet. Other than that, nothing positive. A big 0 for 3 on the American tour. Thank god, it's only preseason.

My stepson (Man U Fan) just texted me. It was a most excellent game for him, and he said that the stadium, the crowd, the organization and set-up of the event, everything was great.
He spent a good chunk of money to get there, but it was worth every penny for him :wink2:

The head of the Spanish league, La Liga, believes that La Liga can outstrip the Premier League for US fans, http://www.theguardian.com/football...ester-united-real-madrid-barcelona?CMP=twt_gu

Although that would be nice to see, I'm not sure that is is possible in the near term.

However, what is interesting is that a lot of European teams are now seeing the US as an important market: Manchester United has a sponsorship with Chevrolet, Bayern Munich has an office in NY, Manchester City owns the new NY team and both Real Madrid and Athletico Madrid, among other teams, came to the US this summer.

Here's a picture my son took in the "Big House", Ann Arbor, MI yesterday.
What a crowd {eek3}
