Re: September Dispatches - Eighth Army and Saracens

Rob,

Without any reservation, I can say these must be the best King and Country releases ever. They could only be topped by Arnhem, which now looks like it won't be available in September unless a forthcoming announcement is made.

I might be tempted to agree with that- that is a pretty bold statement. Unfortunately, I don't collect any of these lines but just LOVE that EA021- That guys face and the way he is standing just screams the Warrior Ethos- strong, confident and defiant, he is a warrior who believes he alone can defeat the entire German army- he is by far my favorite of the new releases.

The EA and Crusader lines have been so very hard for me to steer clear from and this month isn't making it any easier!!

Time to pound the pavement for a part time job.!!:D:D

Guess I could always donate blood.

Gees, inside of 2 hours there's almost 500 views on this thread...Wow. I guess someone is doing something right.

I have one thing to say, "where does he get all of these wonderfall toys?".

Oh no, I wasn't criticizing the figure, I was just commenting. I agree though, it will be a magnet for discussion I am sure- even though companies like St. Pete have put out some very graphic figures for several years now.

I think it captures the very essence of the Middle Ages- as do the St pete figs- rough and tumble and just brutal beyond belief.

The sas figuur's are great !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.
i don't count on this figuurs but on the para's for arnhem .

Great the dispatches are out so we can begin another fight. Let me start
Does anyone think that the saracen who has chopped off the crusaders head is going too far? And for Ron where are the American LRDG figures?

Well gentleman, the cat is finally out of the bag, and I can finally discuss the LRDG and SAS sets. Andy told me he wanted to do them at the NY Symposium this year, but that he needed certain old out of production models to help his sculptors. I found them for Andy and Gordon and had them shipped directly to Hong Kong. Andy has been keeping me posted on the progress of development of these sets, but I have not seen the photos until now. They are awesome!

Gordon and I discussed a really awesome diorama concept, loosely based on the Barce Raid. I commissioned Gordon to do the diorama, purchased several Macci fighters in Italian desert markings, and had them shipped to Hong Kong for Gordon to "shoot up" and place on the diorama. If things go as planned, this diorama will be one of the two main displays K&C brings to the Chicago show. Ooops! I can't tell you about the other (even bigger!) diorama yet. I guess I still have one cat left in the bag.

By the way, I love the new Afrika Corps Stug! The crusaders are must have's as well. As you all probably know, this is not the first time Andy has done decapitation scenes. The original Afghans from 1987, the original Celts from 1999 and the newer Celts from 2006 all have one or more figures with decapitated heads. This is, however, the first time he actually produced the decapitated body to go with the head hunter!

Hey Damian:

No, not at all. Me personally, I won't buy it but of course, it isn't a line I collect. I do collect the WW2 lines and the AE lines. I won't buy the AE 23?- the Egyptian dancers simply because I have my kids to consider.

I think it just goes like anything else, if it doesn't fit your collection, simply pass on it- there are plenty of other good things to grab up. Figures like this just allow certain collectors to expand for more realism.

I do think it is good to the extent that it helps to deglorify war, something which I think ALL Toy Soldier companies can work a little harder towards.

STANDS ALONE!!

They look great ,Nice too see a couple of lemon squeezers
in amongst all the various headgear. Its going to be hard to
top all the releases coming out over the next few months,
german paras, brit paras and these guys.
Their will be a few local collectors who will be glad too
see these guys.

Wow! finally, an LRDG Jeep and a CW30. Between the HB Shermans and these, I have time to raise funds. Glad I waited...almost went for those Figarti LRDGs, ssshhhh

Are the seated figures and rear gunners removable? It will be a double " high" if they are.

A Bedford Lorry & Austin K2-Y ambulance will make a great addition in supplying petrol, supplies, and medical support to these desert rats (maybe HB or NMA can supply us these. I doubt very much if Andy will produce these. I see Arnhem on the next dispatch)

Here's a photo of the Afghans referred to by Louis.

The new Richard the Lionheart figure does look great, but this is definitely after the Crusades. Richard did not adopt the three lions passant until he returned to Europe. We had a great discussion on Richard sometime ago on this site at the following link. Maybe Andy can release another Richard I in the future with the Crusade heraldry he actually wore. Still, nice looking figure.

As to the trophy figure being too much, I don't think it is at all. Both sides were absolutely brutal to each other on many occasions. Even the much celebrated Saladin did his share of what we would term today "war crimes".

If I had the money to spare from my Naps, I would definitely collect this line. My brother collects this line and AeroArt International medieval figures.
