Austrians (1 Viewer)

I suspect that one reason we haven't seen more Austrians is that for many collectors, at their point of entry into the study of the history and into the hobby, are drawn to the French and British. Plus, though the Austrians fought in many of the battles, and were members of every coalition against the French, they were the St Louis Browns (baseball) of Europe after the Siege of Vienna. It was a long, gradual decline, but the Austrian Empire receded almost without reverse, from that time.

I think it is a bit more than "at their point of entry". The Austrian misadventures in the wars are just not as interesting to me even though I have read about most of their battles with the French.;)

I totally agree - Austria was an EMPIRE ! We need urgently a lot of Austrian soldiers - hussars and cuirassiers would be fantastic !

I know we are in the minority but I totally agree with Hadrian , We need Austrians bad . If your looking in Mr Matt any and all of these would be a good start . Gebhard

I sincerely hope you all get your Austrians. Of course then I will be all the more eagar for some more British and French.;):D

Actually, I'd like to see more Seven Years War Austrians, too. The dearth extends back to that period. It's like having no Indians for your cowboys.

Prost!

The whites of the Austrians will be a nice addition indeed but it's Brits and French for my limited budget for now.

That is fine but I am afraid you will need to wait for a FL Line on the Seven Years Wars for that one.

Well, I'd prefer kits, of course, you know me, I like to paint my own.

For SYW Austrians, Hecker & Goros has a couple of figures in their catalog, some grenadiers from a "German" regiment, and grenadiers and hatmen from the Hungarian Gyulai regiment. Stadden also had them in the 54mm custom catalog, from the German regiments and Hungarian both, plus a portrait figure of the Prince of Lorraine in a field marshall's uniform. In the current Tradition catalog, there are some, too. I can't remember if Gammage had any in the Rose line.

The Prins August Prussians can be converted to represent some Austrians, but some regiments had completely different details, like double-breasted waistcoats, and of course, the grenadiers had bearskin caps.

Yes, the Austrians are underrepresented in the market today!

Prost!
