Aztec (1 Viewer)

They're the standard size of John Jenkins figures - 60mm or 1/30 scale.

Brendan

Not to muddy the water, but concept art that I've seen indicates that the figures are 58mm. This may have been the figures in question, excluding the stand. If I had to offer a scale comparison of like figures from another manufacturer, I'd cite matte WWI sets from WB.

I'm not sure that the Aztecs inhabited much of a jungle terrain. Their power base was in the Valley of Mexico which is at least 7000 ft. elevation, more of a high desert than jungle. Just a thought before you get too invested in acquiring a lot of jungle scenic materials.

Further to Ken’s point, Tenochtitlan (the predecessor to Mexico City) was built on an island in Lake Texcoco.

Remember that the natives of Mexico and Central America were probably of smaller stature than Europeans....This was indicated to me by a Mexican historian during a lecture series on their history.
JJD Aztecs are perhaps a little more slender in sculpt than some of his other figures. I am curious to compare his Conquistadores to other series.

The above observation would also apply to the Spanish, who compared to other Europeans, were not a tall people.

right or wrong...
my Aztecs are going to be in a heavy vegetation area...^&grin...
call it artistic license...
but that's what I want...

Here is one artist’s vision of Cortes meeting Moctezuma so nothing wrong with artistic license.

I hope that’s where John is going with this range.

I hope that’s where John is going with this range.

it might be the general direction...
but the three finished figures...
and all the prototypes...
are in fighting poses...

I sent him an email yesterday...
asking about a landing party in a small boat...
and perhaps some small structures...
but he has not replied...

I think John is hard at work sculpting Conquistadores. I would also like to see some archers and slingers.

Mike,

Bro, the Aztecs just did not hang out in the highlands. They ruled a huge portion of Latin America. So, you jungle up your dio all you want. Sent an email to JJ to buy an figure...they replied "sold out", so I am sucking.

I will keep an eye though.

John your neighbor

Sorry, but as a Latin American Studies major and would be historian in Latin American History, this is not quite correct. You probably mean Central America, not Latin America. At any rate their empire centered around Central Mexico, not Central America, which was the province of the Mayans.

Brad...

this map shows they migrated a bit north and inhabited some of Guatemala...

would that be dense jungle?

Mike, yes, there was some migration to what is now Central America, as shown on the map you posted. I believe there would be some dense vegetation. I think it would be more temperate along the coast but more tropical as you moved away.

Brad...
thanks for the reply...
it makes me feel a little better about a jungle terrain...
but honestly...
I was gonna do it anyway...
even if it's wrong...
it just seems right to me...

Mike, I’m looking forward to your dio. I’m sure it will be great.

Merry Christmas to you.

thanks for your research and clarification...

Merry Christmas back at you and hope it's not an extremely cold winter...

That makes two of us about the weather. It’s supposed to be in single digits next week.

I had hoped to be a History professor but after a year and a half into my Masters I learned that I probably wasn’t God’s gift to the profession ^&grin No complaints though.
