I personally won't buy them, price is once concern and I am also one of the dreaded purists. ^&grin

A fair question, but the results may be slanted favorably towards the WBritains since this is "Their" forum Folder. I would be curious if you post a similar thread in the FL forum folder to see what they would say.

Bottom line (FOR ME) is the scale and cost comparison. As wonderfully as the FL are in their Sculpting, Painting and Poses they are always just out of reach for me. --- Larry

I always wanted to start a AZW collection but have always been to busy collecting other ranges. As a result the money was never there to venture into the AZW range. Granted if I did decide to start collecting today I would definitely collect the FL range since I simply missed way to much in the Britains range. I wouldn't necessarily say that it would be unfortunate to collect FL because I missed out on most of the Britains stuff. Honestly if both Britains and FL kick started their AZW line today I wouldn't be able to say for certain which way I would go. Both companies have terrific looking figures which would make the decision very tough.

I don,t and won,t collect the Zulu line. I,m still waiting for the WW1 line promised how many months ago?
I anxiously bought the VietNam GI,s and looked forward to the promised additions. Finally a year later with the release of the NVA I had lost interest.
These promised expanding lines every month or two is sounding more and more like the king of promises R Conte.

FL had done of their sneak peeks about their upcoming range a few months ago and based on what Matt had told me via email, I think it's supposed to be available for pre-order soon.

Gary is probably just rankled that the Blues lost...again ^&grin

Brad, Your right I,m not a happy camper. But there is a bright side to the Blues loosing this early. I just saved $2300 in playoff ticket money. I could use that to buy FL,s WW1 line if it ever arrives!

It also raises the value of mixing if the dearer figures do not reach a critical mass. I can see the value of using cheaper figures to flesh out a diorama dominated by dearer figures but I would question whether the reverse is worth the expense. That is assuming, of course, that the poses do not offer possibilities not covered by Britains. For what it is worth, therefore, I suspect that the purchase of a few Britains figures by an FL collector would be more logical than the purchase of a few FL figures by a Britains collector. It is all up to individual tastes of course. I like dioramas with lots of figures.

I intentionally used 'dearer' rather than 'better' to avoid the pitfalls!

That is not the case actually. Mike Estell, who's principally a Britain's collector, has used FL in his Civil War dioramas as has UK Reb, who also mostly uses Britain's figures in his dioramas.

They could be the exception that prove the rule ... or I could just be wrong. I wonder which is the most likely{sm4}{sm4}

Pick one from column A and one from column B. Folks, we have a winner!

Gary, look at the FL section. WW I is not just a Conte-esque dream. Pre-orders will start soon, to be followed by French soldiers shortly thereafter.

Hi Guys,

While I think they look great its not a line I would be interested in, all of my Zulu War figures are Glossy and there is just no mixing them.

Still they look pretty good and if you have the wallet for it they will be a great addition.

Price of new metals is already extremely high in the UK. First Legion are far above the price point that the average collector will pay. So while yes the series will sell. Will be to a select group of buyers.

Could be said that interest in WB's range is already waning. Recent limited edition sets haven't sold out as was the case previously.

As a native of Natal and Zululand I have a quite a feeling of patriotic pride to think that this relatively minor war of empire seems to hold its' now against much larger conflicts in terms of academic research, toy soldiers and general enthusiasm. The five hours between five and ten on the morning of 22 january 1879 are probably amongst some of the most discussed and debated moments in the whole of military history. Not bad going for this "little war' So I am sure the FL figures will sell as the AZW seems to be firm favourite all round. I will certainly try to add the FL AZW figures as they are released. I have most of the WB and the Conte so I am sure I will find a use for these.

Have to disagree, have a look at the WB website, lots that have sold out and also some that haven't been released yet ! The last 4 sets I bought have all sold out from Britains.

Plan on collecting both, or at least as much as budget will allow. Got into collecting Britains AZW rather late, but keeping my focus only on Isandlwana - so catching up with past releases has not been too difficult. I see no signs of this series waning. This summers releases will be welcome additions with the ambulance set being a true highlight to my collection.

Also very happy to see FL getting involved with this period. Will most likely get most of these figures of the 24th Rgmt. and give them their own display.
Hope the upcoming Zulus look as good.

Volume produced and actually sold is how I how measure popularity. Plenty of early pieces are still readily available and sitting on shelves.

But how do you know what has sold where? Do you know the exact inventory of every store that sells William Britain?

Sorry I do not follow your logic. There are very few LTD edition sets available from the WB website.

20069 - British 24th Foot Stretcher Bearer Set

20089 - British Royal Artillery 7 Pound Gun and Crew No.2, "Last Shot"

20099 - British Royal Artillery Gun Team No.1, "Desperate Escape," 7 Pound Gun, Limber, Horses, Crew and Zulu Warrior

20129 - "SEAMAN AYNSLEY'S DEMISE" - HAND-TO-HAND SET WITH SEAMAN AYNSLEY AND TWO ZULUS

20130 - "PULLEINE'S END" - BRITISH 24TH FOOT LT. COLONEL PULLEINE AND ZULU HAND-TO-HAND SET

I don't think that is too bad from a total of almost 150 different sets.
