totally inspired by Robin's model maker...

I love his bamboo hut beach diorama...

and decided to make one for myself...

the only thing I have that really works on this is the JJD Old Yangshou series...

sadly...it's only 2 figures...but maybe more will come some day...

I will probably just try to sell this in San Antonio next month...

I bought the bamboo hut at the Chicago Show...

I like the redish color at the bottom of it...

Good afternoon Mike ... an interesting variation of T.G. jungle huts ... and very nice. Is that the one we talked about on the phone the other day? They look lke they might fairly easy to build with local materials in the back yard or from a hobby store... ? How did you achieve the "swampy green" water effect. Marvelous!

As with the T.G. maybe a bit to clean and not enough jungle weathering. OR ... maybe they just built them ..

As always, your diorama is top shelf. ^&grin

I was hoping (like you) that the Old Yangshou series would be a hit. I see it as standalone series or can be combined with any other Asian / Pacific sets.
For example, the T.G. Rising Sun series or hopefully the K&C Pacific line that has just started.

The water aspect has come up a treat Mike. You are John's best customer and friend, lean on him for some more pieces in this series^&grin. Robin.

Great work Mike, love the water effect and the feathered friend on the raft.

P.S. I will finally be doing my first pour on my diorama today.

Tom

Excellent diorama !

Love the foliage...my poor olde eyes are not good enough to make out what is in the basket.

Sometimes the simplicity of the message makes it so much greater.

Thank you.

thanks Tom...good luck with your pour...I have a new method now...hahaha...I pour a thin clear layer first to check for leaks...then a second layer...clear or colored with enamel paint mixed in well...

Larry...thanks...this is the hut that I bought in Chicago...I thought I showed it to you and George in his trading room...it looks like an easy build...your wigwam project that turned out so nice looks a lot harder than to build one of these...the word I was trying to think of the other day was "rattan"...you might Google that to find some pre-made sheets that would be easy to cut and suitable for your project...

and yes ...as many of you have mentioned...I wish John would do a few more figures for this series...maybe some fishermen casting nets...a woman kneeling/squatting in a rice paddy...a peasant carrying a basket of rice/bananas/fish...etc...just a peaceful grouping of villagers plodding through their daily routine...

Mike,
Wow, this one is spectacular, love the water effect, you really, really nailed it bigtime.

If Nick has any of the TGM Japanese and Australian figures, I'd set them up on this and I'd be stunned if it didn't sell the first day of the show.

Just a stunning piece of work; maybe I'll shrink myself and Miss Tiffany down to 1/32nd scale and move there and bag this whole toy soldier thing........................:wink2:

George...

our great ancestral Greek philosophical minds think alike...^&grin...

John doesn't really do a series that lends to this style diorama...

next time you talk to Nick...ask him how many times I have asked what he could display on this for me...

I have been badgering him to get some of the TG Japanese Marine figures or Andy's Japanese Navy figures...

I'm not starting a new series for this diorama...

thanks...

tell your mama I said to make you some baklava...extra honey on it...

and quit talking about it...come to the show...bring your girl...no work...a 3 day vacation...

Mike,
TGM Japanese and Australians would be a home run on this, I'll get on Nick to get some of the figures..................San Antonio is a no go this year, but we'll see about next year...................I'm making some major changes on this end as to what shows will be viable going forward and which ones are on the chopping block.............San Antonio is a growing show, promoted the RIGHT way, you have to spend money on advertising, get on social media, do all the things you need to do to spread the word. The June and December London shows also will be up for consideration, not to mention the World Figure Expo in Chicago in 2017.........yep, MMTS will be making some MAJOR show schedule changes in 2016 and beyond.

sounds like you got a plan...I keep telling our friend to drop those dead shows...

the one day ones...the weekend ones...the marathon trip ones...

he comes home exhausted and beat...then complains how slow they were...

it's gotta kill you to make such an effort and get no financial support...

time to re-think which ones you can do without...

you gotta do what's best for you George...

nice guys finish last...

Nick and I have been doing a lot of talking lately; he and I are on the same page, we're both going to do some things going forward that will be innovative and game changing when it comes to shows..........and yes, the one day regional shows are circling the drain, shows like Gettysburg, Valley Forge, Chicago, San Antonio and Hackensack are strong, strong shows, the time has come for dealers to cherry pick the rest of the shows to do.

As you said, it's the same amount of packing, driving, unloading, setting up, selling, breaking down, repacking the van, driving home, unloading and then passing out, but the only difference is some shows are hopping like a pale full of frogs, others draw more flies than people.....

Excellent work!Your ability to make realistic scenes with water is legendary.Well done that man.
