Showman (Greg Kempton) asked me to post these photos. Greg says he do not know the maker or what regiment they are. They are glossy about 2 1/8 inches tall each, a few are marked only "GB" on the bases. Fairly certain they were purchased in the early 1990's. Any help on identifying these would be appreciated.

Hi Brad,

I have a couple of thoughts that may be off in left field but here goes: I think it could be either Wend-Al and or Reeves. I think they are a Foreign Legion Band. I will continue to poke through stuff and see if I can find a match for it, since it looks really familure.

All the best

Dave

I don't think they are Reeves, that style, but the bases are off. Reeves was partial to square base, also, they produced a ton more Matte than gloss in the bands. BUT, with the way they varied, I guess anything is possible.

Tom

Definately not Reeves. They were not produced in the early 1990's, they were matte finish with a rectangular/square base and the bottom looked like spun metal.

That is a tough one to ID. I think that they are European - they look like the traditional French and German style lead figure. Hints of Heyde and Mignot are there in their style.

Thanks for the info Gideon. I thought most of my Reeves were matte. BUT I do have a few taht are glossy, so they did both, just way more matte. Do you have any other information on Reeves?

Tom

Hi Guys,

I am really glad that some of you also are stumped here. I know I have seen the style before but I just cant put my finger on it. They certainly have a Mignot sort of look but because of the bases being rounded and lacking the CBG on the bases I will have to say they arent from them. I am also looking at a company from Italy called Garibaldi(SPelling) but I dont have any of them in my collection so I can compare or look at the bases but the few I have seen have a similar style. I certainly hope someone knows this set.

All the best

Dave

Dave,
Nice call, Garibaldi could be them, i had forgotten about them!

Gideon?

Not really. Other than Reeves is still around. They were the US distributor for Corgi Toys (back then the main competitor for Dinky) from the early 1960's through the late 1990's. In fact, in my personal stash, I have two of their salesmans cases which they used to show upcoming models for the new year during customer visits. Pretty cool.

They are currently distributing Breyer Horses and other assorted specialty toys. I'll be seeing them at Toy Fair in a few weeks.

My guess is that in the 1970's and early 80's they dabbled with the figures you have. I sold off a collection of several hundred a few years back.

I think they were made in Japan or China. I always thought that they were great bang for the buck and they are the ones my dad would give me to play with. Their Napoleon figure was great.

Hi Guys thanks for the input. I purchased these in a large collection recently from a collector. He sadly passed away. I have been going crazy trying to ID them. The have "GB" on the base of two of the figures. kind of "etched" on the bases. Very well done in my opinion.

So you guys think A foreign Legion Band of some sort?
THanks

Brad , thanks for posting these !

Greg,
I am now convince they are Garibaldi. Do a search or completed search on ebay for Garibaldi and compare style and base, looks like a winner to me!!!!
