Hi Guys,
I live in southern NJ located within the Philadelphia metro area. I literally work across from the city of Philadelphia on one side of the Delaware River and from my office window I can see the city in clear view.
Having lived here all my life I've enjoyed the numerous AWI historical sites in the area, not to mention all the other history in the area. Recently, in speaking with a co-worker of mine, I discovered that he lives in the same Philly neighborhood as 2 members of the Band of Brothers and that he knows them personally.
They are Bill Guarnere & Babe Heffron. Last year I bought their biographical book called, "Brothers in Battle; Best of Friends". While I haven't yet seen the Band of Brothers DVD series (I just started on it), after reading this book I am blown away by their story! It is truly an incredible story and to think that they are both still alive after surviving the war.
I'm told that the book goes into greater detail about their lives than you see in the movie. The book also details their involvement on the movie set of BoB. I highly recommend the book. To top things off, my co-worker got the book autographed for me by the two heroes:
