Excellent work! What is the reason for the different uniforms for each section of the band?

The drummers and fifers are wearing the uniform of the Grenadiers, which is white coat and crimson facings, but the bandsmen wear the sky blue with yellow facings.

The white coated drummers and fifers would go into battle providing the drum beat for the advance, while the bandsmen would be behind the lines and assist with medical duties or be playing in concerts etc.

Note that there are drummers and fifers in both parts of the band with different uniforms.

I'll check and see if I can find out more for you today.

Liked the "Dorset to the Rescue" hornist, who is playing the horn by holding it the wrong way around. Such touches makes your band all the more "special" and different from most, once again. Good old Giles! ^&grin

Giles Brown of Dorset Soldiers has come to rescue before in my making the 1st Regiment of Grenadiers à Pied when about 7 years ago I cast, assembled and painted figures using Prince August Moulds.

They only had half the musicians I required, and as Giles had the instrumental arms from this period, I added some of them, as well as modifications to the PA arms to produce this band:

check out the image below of the 1st Regiment of Grenadiers à Pied and you also see that the band has a different uniform than the Grenadier Drum Corps.

In this case the same colour, but a different cut to the coat and wearing a bicorn had not a bearskin.

FINISHED

After about a year I have completed the band



I still have a few spare castings, and can add some more instruments, or even scratch build some, like a triangle, or get some extras from Giles Brown of Dorset Soldiers, who has a vast array, so keep a lookout.

I may also get a few more bearskin drummers and fifers from Tradition of London, because the 1st Regt Band is still in production, and by covering over the brass plate on the bearskin, and giving them a white coat, instead of blue, they will fit.

If anyone is interested in buying the spare castings, please contact me, as they could add to any Napoleonic band set.
