Got this from the Hobby Bunker Forum. A fellow collector saw the Barzso people at a show and asked them if they were ever going to do a WW2 playset. They told him that they were comtemplating doing one. That would be great. And, if Barzso continues his theme of doing sets based on T.V. shows, maybe he will do that playset based on the great WW2 T.V. show "COMBAT!" That would be a cool set. What do you guys think? I have already sent an e-mail to Mr. Barzso suggesting he do a "COMBAT!" playset.

I'd be surprised, he generally favors the black powder era.

I think that a Stalingrad playset was issued by Toy Soldiers of San Diego and not by Barzso.
Also I would agree with eborris, a WWII playset from them would be a surprise.

You're right. Buildings by Barzso. I think they had a burning hut or was it a hut with icicles on it? I think they had a nebelwefer, but I don't know if Barzso made it. I'm just guessing from my bad memory.

I would not comepletely rule out a WW2 Barzso set.
I got this info from Ron himself several years ago.
Ron was planning on doing a WW2 theme I believe with mounted Germans & French partisans, but something came up that caused him to cancel it.
Don,t want to get into that because I have just partial info on it.
Having said the above, I really think Ron will stick to the earlier time periods.

If, like the Barzso people told this collector at the show, Barzso is considering doing a WW2 playset, I have some questions.
1. Is there interest in a WW2 playset by Barzso?
2. If the set was a playset based on the WW2 T.V. series "COMBAT!" with character figures, ect., would you buy it?

I'm not into WW2, so I probably wouldn't buy it. However, I think WW2 is the most popular era out there and everything he makes now is gold, so I would think he'd sell out fairly quick.

I would buy it, even though I hate european theater of operations in WWII. I remember my Dad and I watched that show on Tuesday evenings growing up. Those were some pleasent memories and time well spent with my dad..............Stryker

Ed is right about Barzsos sets being gold, I sold off all of mine in the past year and got 3 times for what I paid for them.
As for me buying, it would have to depend on the buildings and accesseries. Speaking of which Jim Clouse, a member of this board currently does the buildings and his work is the best foam work I have seen to date.
I would be afraid that Ron,s figures would be too small to go along with TSSD & Contes plastic of which I would use them with.

Well, he could go back to the Robin Hood or Lewis and Clark size, then they would be fine, height wise anyway, the Conte's may be a bit chunkier.

If Barzo does GOOD WW2 sets, it could be my first Barzo purchase. They would have to compatible with either Conte/OTSN or 21C/Airfix. The level of detail would have to be sharp and well cast to compete with the other lines.

Regarding a bent for TV series - let's not forget that Band of Brothers can be considered a "TV series" as can the upcoming "The Pacific"! Some possibilities for some paratroopers or Marines that haven't been too heavily done in quality plastic. For a Band of Brothers set perhaps they could produce the paratroopers in the late 1944 uniform as worn in Holland and the Bulge - those have never appeared in plastic.

While Ron Barzso could do a WW2 set, there are a ton of other sets and eras he could do as well. Even Falling Indians. I'm not sure anyone should get their hopes up that this is going to happen any more than anything else by him. As someone mentioned, the black powder era seems to be part of a favorite. As I understand it, the Zorro set is selling real well, and so is the Daniel Boone set from last year.

People mentioned, do a "Combat" set.
I agree that would be kinda neat, but when you get into copywright or whatever you want to call it, the expense kinda rules it out.
Conte stopped the movie theme with his playsets because of it.

Maybe, but Barzso seemed to have great success with "Last of the Mohicans" "Zorro" and the "Daniel Boone, Fess Parker" sets. He didn't seem to have any problems with interior accessories either. Still, my guess is we won't see a "Combat" set in the future, but I could be wrong. As it is, with Conte's 27 different Normandy GIs, that's hard to top.

Hey Stryker, can I ask you a question?.How can you 'Hate' a theatre of operations?.You see, there are lots of Wars that I have no interest in at all,but I don't 'Hate' any of them.Thousands of your countrymen and thousands of mine gave there lives so the good people of Europe could live free from the hideous Nazi regime, its just as honorable as the War in the Pacific and just as vital,I just wondered why Europe upsets you so,do you not like us Europeans?:).

You see I am as passionate about Normandy and Arnhem as you are about Iwo and Okinawa, and feel very very privileged to have walked on the beaches where the UK and US forces began to liberate Europe, but I still hope you get all your wishes for a Pacific range,I think every man who died on our side fighting the Japs or the Nazi's was a hero, wherever he lost his life.

Cheers

Rob

Rob:

Perhaps "hate" was a poor choice of words in my comment, I should have said "I have no or ZERO interest in that theater of operations". As far as not careing for the europeans, NO that is not it at all. Last time I checked England, New Zealend, Australia were all involved with us fighting a much more fanatical foe in the pacific, and they did a good job in the areas they were assigned to fight in.

I just am tired of most everyone thinking that the Nazies were the greatest enemy ever and they "ALONE" killed six million people in camps. Well they did do that, but has anyone thought about what Japan did in the pacific? How many mllions of chinese did the japs kill in thier occupation of china? No one will ever know, because China was a poor country then and I'm sure population records were not kept up in all of the different provinces. Has anyone thought about what they did in Korea, Vietnam, Indonesia, New Guinea, all of the hundreds of islands and the islanders? The most ruthless foe we "US" have ever faced was Japan--by leaps and bounds. Not because of thier military might, but by thier own culture. It basically turned into a race war, as they hardly ever surrendered, and if we hadn't had dropped the bomb on them twice, we may still be there fighting. They had thier entire population ready to meet us at the beaches and die. Even the dreaded SS knew when to give up and surrender, that was not in the playbook at Japan.

I hope that when this new series comes out someone will deliver some more pacific stuff, but if they don't, looks like I will be saving alot of money.............Stryker

Yes I can very much understand that Stryker, what the Japenese did in China is overlooked by so many for some unknown reason. The Japenese capacity for commiting atrocities against civilians and prisoners of war was as breathtaking as it was obscene.I also fully agree with you about them having a totally different mindset, thank god they were beaten.

Hopefully with the Pacific series interest in this theatre will be ignited and the inbalance between the theaters will be addressed. Also hopefully sooner or later a TS producer will spot this and release some long awaited figures.
