The Battle of Ali Masjid took place on 21 November 1878, it was the opening battle in the Second Afghan War.

Here the 45th RATTRAY'S SIKHS escort an Elephant Drawn gun battery. Two of the 45th RATTRAY'S SIKHS have volunteered as Gunners
