Finally got the ACW troops out on the table. This was a war game/ sham battle. An annual July tradition for my son and friends that all have a birthday in July. Switched from 28mmNapoleonics or Ancients back to 54mm.

The Union troops were deployed left to right, 19th Indiana, 2nd Wisconsin, 7th Wisconsin, 56th PA, 76th NY { in reserve} and 6th Wisconsin with Campbells battery on the far right .
I used darn near every figure I had for the Confederate army. All 5 Regiments of the Stonewall Brigade { 50 figure units!} and Trimbles Brigade of 4 Regiments of Georgia , North Carolina and Alabama troops.
Images show first deployments, a turn or 2 into the fight.

I'm afraid the Yankee's { ME} were a bit too aggressive at times. Rebels found their ranks dis ordered on occasion, and the Union seized the initiative to attack, driving 3 regiments of the Stonewall Brigade into further confusion.
2 Regiments held firm and the General rallied his others. While my Officer leading this bold attack , fell lifeless from the saddle. Initiative lost.

It's always great to see those big battle scenes. Thanks for the pictures:salute::

As it turned out, our set time came and with it a minor Confederate victory. The Unions left was Turned, flank refused but units were exhausted and had taken significant losses. The Rebels had lost more troops{ and 2 colors while being over run in disorder}, but their reserves very well would have broken the line had absolute darkness{ 6PM time limit = Darkness} not put an end to the fight.

300 Union troops + Mounted Officers, file closers, Bandsmen, and 6 cannon each with 9 crew. 450 Rebel Infantry with Mounted Officers etc. and 6 cannon with 9 crew each.
At least 4 more Union Regiments and another battery sat helpless on their shelves and were not called upon, this time.

A fair amount of effort playing 54mm horse and musket battles using single figures. A little oh be joyful and some icy hot helped out with the old men's aching backs!

That is one epic diorama Scott, this one may set a record for likes.............must have taken forever to set up, but the end result is worth it, thanks for sharing this one..............

It's all Ken Osen's fault. 99% of the reason I started collecting 54mm was Kens' amazing work with Conte 's playsets. 90% of this display is because of his efforts sculpting amazing figures and terrain pieces.
I call my Civil War collection the ultimate playset, and it's a treasure with all the variety offered through the years , conversions and castings I make and paint . Simply a grand time setting up a display. My 54mm collections include 1066 Warlord, Napoleonic, ACW, ZULU and WW2 all dominated by Kens work through the last 12 years of my collecting 54mm.
So, Thanks' Mr Osen!
