I finally decided to break out some of my 20mm WWII collection and post a few pictures.

This one is loosely based on The Battle of the Bulge..........

When I first got back into the hobby in the mid 1990's, WWII was my main focus; 20mm at the time was the dominant scale to wargame in, so there were loads of companies that produced metal figures, resin and metal vehicles, plus large amounts of scenic items such as buildings, trenches, bunker complexes, bridges, etc, etc.

I started painting the figures and building the vehicles as well as painting and building scenery, a lot of model railroading kits make great structures once you kit bash them like some of these in the photos......

Dreaming of a white Christmas already...

Great set up and I like the Pershing hidden in there.

As many long standing forum members can recall, most of my earlier contributions to the diorama thread were WWII set ups, been meaning to get back to WWII for a long time. Sometimes, all it takes is a tiny spark and Mitch provided it with his outstanding Battle of the Bulge foxhole diorama; I took one look at that and started to dig out some of my WWII items and this is the result..................

Sometimes all it takes is a tiny spark and another aspect of the collection gets some exposure; thanks again Mitch, that is a great base you made, the snow effect looks great..........

Thanks Mitch, it's 8 feet by 5 feet, perhaps a bit too busy will all the tanks, but I'm out of practice at setting up WWII dioramas, will have to work on that........:wink2:

Had no idea you had WW II figures George. As with all your setups, it looks great and shows what you can do in smaller scales.

What a terrific scene George! I too did not know you did WW2 too, fantastic set up there mate, thanks for sharing with us.

Wow, This is one awesome setup {bravo}}

Thanks Rob and Brad; if you look back into the diorama thread from several years ago, you'll see some of my WWII dioramas.

I think the time has come to dust off this aspect of my collection and start rolling it out.

By my best count, I've probably got 500 vehicles, 5,000 figures and countless buildings, bunkers, trenches, pillboxes, etc, etc, WWII is by far the largest aspect of my collection.

Thanks Wayne, glad you like it, I sort of threw this one together without a lot of planning, will do more well thought and planned out ones as time allows this year...........

What a surprise for the morning George and it's my favourite era WW2! Thanks for posting and I hope to see more.

Tom

Glad you like it Tom, I will be breaking out more of my WWII collection in the future, it's gigantic and the possibilities are endless...............my main areas of focus are Italian Front 1943-1945, Eastern Front 1942-1945, ETO from June 1944 through the fall of Berlin and the Pacific theater; Marines, Japanese, Chindits, Indian Army, British forces and last but certainly not least, Aussies, loads of them...........

George great work, I had been waiting for you to dig out your WW2 collection I even go back sometimes and look at your older WW2 threads.
As I really like WW2 in that scale.....been tempted myself plenty of times.....Look forward to the next round.

George mate,
Outstanding Dio cobber. But lets not get Tom on a high with all that Snow when by the sounds of it you have heaps of Aussies and the Imperial Enemy to put down on a big dio. Maybe you could throw a few Marines to help out.^&grin
Looking forward to seeing this one soon. Well maybe not before Chicago.:smile2:
Cheers Howard

Thanks for the feedback, been far too long for one of my WWII dioramas, this might be the start of a long WWII run...............

Thanks Howard, glad you like it. Yes, a Pacific battle is in the cards, but OTSN will delay it for a few weeks or so.

Will see you in about two weeks, travel safe...........

I forgot you had these George! {eek3}... not quite the colour of your Napoleonic and ACW battles but never the less just as impressive size wise! ^&cool
