Hey fellas

The WW2 American Experience in Gettysburg Pa is hosting a Battle of the Bulge conference next Saturday from 8:30-5. Itinerary is as follows:

Battle of the Bulge Conference - World War II American Experience (visitww2.org)

This is a really cool place to visit if you've never went. The wife is going to join me- most likely sit there next to me playing games on her iPhone {sm4}{sm4} (she does enjoy the vehicles and artifact and first hand accounts) but at least she will get a delicious meal out of me for going.

Hope to see you there.

OOOFFFFFF

Well, just went to order my ticket and BANG- SOLD OUT- Imagine being the guy that tries to get the word out about the event and NOT having a ticket lol What a sucker!! {sm4}

So the wife and I decided to to give it a try and went anyway. Figured if it was sold out, we could always enjoy the beautiful weather in Gettysburg and find something to do.

Suffice to say- we are both SO glad we went!!! The conference had sold out so the organizers figured out a new layout to cram more people in there ha ha. It really wasnt crowded and it was simply AMAZING!! There were 5 WW2 vets in attendance all day as well as 6 guest speakers talking about a slew of topics related to the BOB- The plight of the 106th ID, the 30th ID, the Malmedy massacre, discussion of KIA's from the Bulge who are buried at Gettysburg National Cemetary, a 30 year US Army Colonel who closed the conference down with a discussion of Ike and the SHAEF leadership at the Bulge.

Then there was this guy- Andrew Biggio- who was just AMAZING!!! This concept of having WW2 vets sign an M1 Garand is just so brilliant in it's simplicity you would think SOMEONE would have thought about it a long long time ago. Here is a YT video which pretty much covers the topics he discussed- he was just an amazing speaker and highly motivated young man- seriously, it's an hour long video but if you have the time, it is well worth the watch.

"The Rifle" with Andrew Biggio (youtube.com)

I capped the evening off by taking my wife to the very best restaurant in Pa- La Bella Italia. She was a super trooper leading the charge and staying motivated through it all- the final discussion about the SHAEF leadership went over her head (by her admission) so she went into the snack bar and played iPhone games but I couldn't have asked for a better companion. We came home, fed the dogs, talked about the days events and then watched Masters of the Air-Ep1

If any of you come to GBurg you should make an effort to at least swing by the American WW2 Experience. They scale back hours in the winter (most likely based on visitor demand) but they will be open on the weekends starting in February.
