Battlefield buildings. (2 Viewers)

Scott shipping costs will be the killer buying these items I’m sorry to say as it more than what the item costs and the reason I’ve not got anything else

The sellers profile states ships worldwide. Don’t see anything about additional overseas charges. Worth asking. This is a really great and affordable piece. Again really wish someone would step up and provide more affordable pieces like this.

To ship to the Uk the seller charging on average $40.00 and is a problem from buying from the USA in general not just him

Jakob in Denmark makes awesome 1:30 scale battlefield buildings and he can custom make any to your specifications. I have several in my collection and I can vouch they are top quality. Check out his link http://www.toysoldiers.dk/shop/Eng/diorama-world-195s1.html

They are beautiful, but often at least an order of magnitude more expensive than most what we are talking about. I think it is important to cover all ends of the spectrum, and do want to order a custom diorama from him one day. Still, with shipping and exchange rate it could get very expensive.

I agree that his large dio's can be a little expensive but I still think they are well priced when compared to other dio makers. The best option to save money is to just ask Jakob to construct a building only. They are very well priced and you can put the scenery together yourself. That's what I did with my diorama, most of the scenery (grass, trees, creek, bridge etc) I made and/or put together.

You can't go wrong in dealing with either David or Jacob, both do outstanding work, plus let's not forget Gordon from K & C as well.

Understood these are expensive and shipping is expensive as well; bottom line is this is not an inexpensive hobby, you get what you pay for as the saying goes.

David has done several custom pieces for my 20mm collection, including a Spanish/Italian town, a custom piece for my Far East collection from Imphal, a large German strongpoint and a stunning D-Day German strongpoint.

I have commissioned others as well to do pieces for me; Paul Darnell from the UK has done two large ACW and Napoleonic layouts for me, plus a large Normandy strongpoint and a large Hurtgen forest piece.

Mick Sewell and Collin Rumford from the Uk have made me numerous scratch built buildings, as has Tom Panetta from the US.

Hovels in the UK has made me two large farm complexes for Waterloo and the crown jewel of my collection is the massive 12' by 6' Hougoumont layout I bought from a wargaming club in the UK, the shipping was steep, but I wanted the piece, so shipping is part of the process, just chalk it up and move on.

None of these items were cheap, but you can't put a price on the enjoyment you get in return for the pieces.

The way I look at it as I love the hobby, love my collection and enjoy it very much, so the money in my opinion is well spent, just like spending money with David, Jacob and K & C/Gordon is money well spent.

One of the aspects I enjoy most is planning the pieces, consulting with the builder and seeing a dream become a reality.

We all have choices to make as to how we spent our disposable income on our hobby....................

Hi Can you post some of these custom pieces so that we can also enjoy them?
Cheers

My collection is 1/72nd scale/20mm, not the more popular 54mm/60mm scale that the majority of you collect...................

I just took a look at the ebay seller - 734toddb - and he has some recasts of some of the Conte building and walls. Not all of his stuff is, but there are a few that stand out as Conte.

For me, it was space and scale. I sold off my entire Conte collection to make room for some buildings that are more in scale to K&C. The wall thickness was the thing that always bothered me. I love the look and had no issue with the foot print of space the buildings too. It was just the look of the doorway thickness that were 4 times thicker than they should be. I know the buildings had to be created that way to hold up to the foam casting and shipping, but it looks off to me. And it just my opinion. Like I said, I liked the look of the Conte buildings in general.

Another thought is the size of the buildings for shipping. These foam buildings are not heavy, just bulky. That can cause the price to ship to go up as well.

The church and dioramas with buildings that I got from Jakob ( http://www.toysoldiers.dk/shop/Eng/diorama-world-195s1.html ) are mostly made out of foam, the walls are not to thick and more importantly, the cost to ship from Denmark to me in Australia was surprisingly quite good.

I have dealt with the Danish guy and he is a good guy and his stuff is good, I have bought some K & C from him and also a wall and gate set to go with my K & C FOB set.
