Thought I might post a couple from my travels after Scott's request......anyone else? How about the US battlefields we can't see in Europe? Gettysburg for example, or the desert, or the far East?

Arnhem - 2006 - picture from the base of the 1st Airborne bridgehead outside Arnhem at Oosterbeek. Taken of the Church used as an HQ and aid post.

Again from the church - towards Arnhem bridge looking along the river - I was surprised how flat and open the ground was and I couldn't see the river!

The new bridge - out of town! Taken from the riverbank on the way into Arnhem from Oosterbeek - again, hard to see the river.

The church at Driel on the south side. One Commonwealth grave in the cemetary that I could see.

Part of the 30 Corps road, no wonder going was tough! And lest we forget.....

Panda,

Great pictures! Thank you for sharing them!

Warmest personal regards,

Pat

It would be good if we all lived near each other because then we could arrange trips to othe battlefields!!!!!:D:eek::cool::rolleyes:;)

This is a picture of the woodland just off the road I pictured 30 corps going up - that stretch was near Eindhoven I think - it is perfect ambush country, thick woods and small fields to put an AT gun in your flank. No height anywhere and so a church spire meant a lot!

That might make a good place for a reactment of a battle:eek:!!!!:D I love them!!!!!:D I have seen a reactment of the battle of Bannockburn!!!:D:eek:

Thanks for the photos. I have to get to Arnhem (and Eindoven & Nijmagen), Bastogne, and Normandy one of these days. I have been to Pearl Harbor in Hawaii and Monte Casino in Italy, but those are the only major WWII battle sites I have visited.

Louis, I would love to visit the Shenandoah valley and see the sites, but hey, it's a long trip!:D I'll post some more pics instead.....:D

Come on you guys, you must have some! Don't be shy! Has anyone been to Rorkes drift? Gettysburg? Casino? El Alemain? Kasserine? Mekong Delta? Western Front?

I have been to Waterloo and Thermopylae back in 1984 and took some photos, but of course they aren't digital, so I will have to scan them.
I live about 45 minutes drive away from Battle, where the Battle of Hastings took place, obviously not much to see but they have regular reenactments and I will try to attend the next one with my digital camera!

Jeff, that would be great, look forward. Best wishes

Went to Shiloh this weekend to take some photos for dioramas and instead found the reenactors in Cloud field. Thought someone might like to see them.
