Hi Guys,
Saw this movie.

Aliens arrive and not friendly. Luckily for the world the US Navy is conducting annual RIMPAC exercises with other navies near Hawaii.

Good action and great recruitment movie for USN. USN members in Hawaii in particular must be happy.

One unfortunate note. When some damage is caused in Hong Kong I regret to inform members that Pacific Place, where K&C shop, is probably did not survive.

Without giving much away one of the questions I have to ask is what does one have to do to earn a Medal of Honour ?

Hasbro board game something to do with title although only one scene has a relationship to the game.

Good fun.

Regards
Brett

Brett, nice to read a positive review of this as so far it sounds like it's being torn to pieces by the press as a pile of you know what. Isn't Rihanna in this one? Will have to check this film out, thanks for posting.

Cheers

Good of Brett to give an opinion - at times he can be quite reticent to pass judgement on something!!!

Based on the previews I have seen of this movie so far, it looks pretty bad. I think I will have to pass on this one.

I wonder if it's Final Countdown bad. When we went to see that one way back when, there was a solitary guy in the front rows acting like it was X rated material at US jets shot down prop driven Japanese planes.{eek3}

I do not understand the comparison. How does one act while watching X rated material?{sm4}{sm4}{sm4}{sm4}

I suppose it depends on how big the "explosion" is!!! ^&grin

Katherine Ross, then age 40 was the eyecandy in Final Countdown making the ship, planes, and gear the stimulation images. Battleship has a number of actresses thereby lowering the sausagefest meter on this film. It will be in my Netflix queue.

I liked it. Here's my Amazon review:

What a heap of fun this movie was! Admitidly, given the lack of buzz about it when it came out, I saw it with low expectations but I was genuinely entertained by it. There are a couple of big laughs at the start and then when the action kicks in some tense passages and some surprises. Sure it's predictable but the significant adjustments needed to boost the board game origins into a full scale film were in my opinion quite well done. Obviously you need to suspend belief about various things, but if you can accept an alien invasion you can live with the other major credibility leaps too. Indeed, if you insist on your viewing following completely logical paths you should probably stick to documentaries.

I thought the actors did a sound job, they kept things moving and looked the part. The aliens looked fine, and suitably inscrutable at times. The special effects were quite good indeed and some of the big scenes were quite spectacular. I liked the pumping sound-track too! There were some clever historical references and some pleasing character interactions. There are a few cheesy moments but it's in keeping with the film not taking itself too seriously. It really worked for me and I happily recommend it as a good `B' movie. All up, the makers can be well pleased with themselves here!

Very "pretty" scenes. I thought that there would be more "fleet" action. I liked the white supremacist chin beards on the aliens. My wife used to be a National Park ranger on the WW II destroyer USS Cassin Young in Boston and while the older vets took good care of that destroyer's look, THAT ship wasn't going anywhere. The animated GI JOES once took out the USS Constitution because it was "non-magnetic" Yeah....right.

"and while the older vets took good care of that destroyer's look, THAT ship wasn't going anywhere"

Yes getting the Missouri going in just a couple of hours was one of the bigger credibility issues. And that it apparently has heaps of live 16 inch rounds just lying around.....
