BCS Games - time to pick 'em (1 Viewer)

Everyone keeps saying the Sooners are going to get blown out, they can't keep up with Floridas speed, etc, etc.

The Soooners scored 50+ in each of their last five games, an NCAA record, yet noone mentions that, funny how that is.

Tebow said he's looking forward to playing vs a Big 12 defense; be careful what you wish for Timmy boy...........

Anyone else see the blurb that the Utah Attorney General is considering anti-trust action against the NCAA for the BCS debacle?

Probably just propaganda and it won't happen, but an interesting idea.

I believe firmly that no government, at any level, has any business involving itself in professional sports.

Does that include the PA congressman who was all up in arms over spygate and wanted the Patriots win in the Super Bowl vs the Iggles voided, he made quite a big deal out of nothing and wasted a lot of the PA taxpayers money in the process if I recall...........

Yes, it does. I do not believe in using taxpayers' money for sports stadiums, under any circumstances. I am not happy that Fast Eddie Spendell has been so generous with my money. Let the teams pay for their own d****d stadiums. You should appreciate that, as should the Yankee fans, when you see your teams shelling out millions for free agents, then they put on the classic barrel and suspenders and go before the state and county governments and cry poverty.

They stiffed us here in the Lehigh Valley, too, handing over graft, er, I mean, taxpayers' money to help build the Phils' AAA stadium. It's officially known as Coca-Cola Stadium, but we conservatives here in the Valley (yes, there actually are some in this Red Hochburg) call it Taxpayer Park.

I was also particulary ashamed to hear our esteemed Senator Specter (should be S.P.E.C.T.R.E) lead the Congressional drive to investigate doping in baseball. I guess there was nothing more pressing that day.

There's nothing in either the federal or Commonwealth constitutions that say our legislature should give money to any business, and I think that includes sports teams.

Of course, as Fast Eddie has promised us, gambling is tax reform. We're going to have all kinds of revenue from the slot machine parlors the General Assembly has approved, so we don't need to reform finances. I can't wait. My homestead exclusion will knock $180 off my annual real estate tax bill. Thank you, Governor Rendell, may I have another?

Prost!

Ah, but college football is...uh...college...not professional...um.....

IT'S ALL ABOUT EDUCATION IN COLLEGE!!

The millions of dollars involved ensure...um....better education?

That guy has no intention of suing. That is a gimmick for the local yocals in Utah to pat him on the back. Probably running for office.

Whew. Florida and Oklahoma looking ugly at the half.

The month plus long layoff is too long between the end of the regular season and the major bowl games; Alabama came out flat, so did Texas and now so has Florida.

It should be at least 17-7 Sooners, both of those blown scoring chances are going to bite them in the rear end.

I thought this game was going to be a shootout and it very well could, but you have to punch it in when you're inside the ten yard line not once, but twice; to come away with zero points twice is a killer.

I've got the feeling Tebow is going to come out on fire in the second half, he's too good of a player..........

Two timeouts, a false start penalty and then a roughing the punter penalty all on one punt in the 3rd quarter. I don't recall ever seeing that before.

Regarding that 4th and goal, why did they not kick for 3? What were they thinking? Always take the points. -- lancer

how bout them gators!!!!!!!!!!!

got to admit I was a little worried about the sooners offense early, but the gators got the stop when they needed them the most, and just enough offense to win the game!!! so in closing as I told capitolron months ago, gators....national champions!!!!!....Sammy

Congrats to the Gators. They should probably send a thank you card to Oregon St., though, for beating USC. I don't have any doubt SC would have beat either team on the field last night.

Gators win it again. Congratulations to Fla. fans. Once again, Ok. down in flames. Reminds me of the Bills. They get to the big dance but never are prom queen. Oh well, next year for the Sooners, eh? Now, who's #1? -- lancer

They beat four top twenty teams and Miami(FL): #16 BYU, #20 Pitt, #8 Penn. St. and # 13 Oklahoma St.

Only two of the five PAC 10 teams were ranked and of those only SC was ranked higher than its opponent.

Well said my fellow Trojan! The press in the Midwest & Easy was just a little slanted this year! Look at the final poll though as USC finished #3 & #2 (Coaches' Poll). Keep in mind that Pete Carroll does not vote on the coaches' poll as well! I look forward to a playoff system!

Hang Tough,

Pac-10 5-0?? While it may sound impressive, other than USC's win, who did they beat? The top teams of the Pac-10 beat the mid-tier teams of other conferences. Not as great at it first appears.

Peter-are you feeling ok? No more Big(Slow)-Ten, Easy-12 & South(Easy)eastern Kool-Aid for you! Wow! As for education, agreed-but those programs bring in a lot of money for non football related events and provide lots of jobs too. As always, looking forward to a playoff system!

Best & FIGHT ON,
Beaufighter

Penn St. played hard until the end. A great football program. Just too much talent and speed on the other side of the ball. I have to say it was a little sad seeing Paterno sitting up in the box. The guy is in such bad shape he couldn't even go into the locker room at halftime. Painful to watch him walk. A lot of respect for him, but he should really consider retirement for his own sake and the team. The three-year extension was a sign of respect, but I hope he knows better and calls it quits.

USC was without three starters for this game inclusive of their Defensive Captain. Agreed about Coach Joe. I have a lot of respect for him though and he deserves a lot of accolades!

Fight On,
Beaufighter

Props to the Gators - I was pulling for the Sooners as a Big XII fan but Florida proved it on the field so congratulations to them. Personally, my vote would go to Utah for going undefeated and beating the long-time #1 Alabama handily but that is why we call for a playoff.

As to the slant of the press - of course the press in the East and Midwest was slanted towards those teams - isn't the press in the West partial to those programs? When I read the online news of those papers it certainly seems to be the case. I'm not saying you are wrong I'm just saying its the way it goes in the press. Here in the Midwest (Kansas) we always say "East Coast bias" when we speak of the national press as the perception is the Eastern sportswriters won't look outside of their heavily populated east coast areas.

Personally, I think it would be great to have a true playoff as we get to see all of the programs go head to head. If this were the case I doubt ANY conference could consistently claim supremacy. After all, there are great coaches and players across the country at every level of sports.

Now, as fan of the Kansas Jayhawks - it's time for some HOOPS!

Take care-

Eric
