In this scene I have tried to show what a Working Party from Prussian IR 40 may have looked like if ordered to build gun emplacements before a battle. All the figures are IR 40 except for the Engineer Officer. Everyone who has been in the Military will appreciate the image of the "shouting Sergeant"
If you would like to replicate this scene, please PM me for advice.

Thanks, Wolfgang.
I do have some more dioramas, of the "unusual kind", which I intend to post in coming months.

Bob, great to see the figures all setup in your diorama, keep up the great work and post more for us to see.

I have painted the set of Hecker & Goros 40th Regt Fusiliers and your 'shouting sergeant' is seen here in the centre.

Hi John,
Lovely set of figures by H&G, such a pity they didn't do a drummer, and a standard bearer. In my dio the IR 40 men are modified Tradition figs, the Engineer Officer is by Ulrich Puchala, and the "Sentry" (keeping a lookout from the hill is a New Hope Design.
I hope this may stir up some interest in the Seven Years War!

Thank you very much Bob, oh yes please keep them coming. I appreciate any collector who dares to walk through the djungle of Fredericus Rex uniforms. Does bring back wonderful memories from times living in Bavaria, (Regensburg) in the mid eighties. Zinnfiguren Club evenings among collectors in their late 70ies, prepared to get at each others throats if there was a dispute about the correct number of buttons at the uniform of any Frederician Regiment (Well, Knöpfchenzähler !!!!). As a youngster I had to raise my hand to ask a question, if lucky Herr Oberst granted me an answer. During that time the fanatstic books of Hans Bleckwen where published and I was advised by those mature collector friends to put down those comics and invest my money on proper books. So I did, 120 DM was heavy in those days and it had serious inpact on my monthly Entertainment Fund, no Biergarten for the coming weeks. Yet I never regreted that purchase, it is still the standard on the Prussian Army of the seven years war. Time flies, 40 years gone, happy memories remain and are refreshed by threads like this.

Wolfgang,

WOW, what a brilliant set of books, I'd love to see them, but alas I suppose they are no longer around.

The best books for the era I have are the pair by Dorn and Engelmann 'The Infantry Regiments of Frederik the Great' and 'The Cavalry Regiments of Frederik the Great' but they are not as detailed as your books.

Thanks for showing us the,
John

Nice diorama, Bob! This is right up my alley. For anyone who might consider visiting the MFCA show in May, this is exactly the kind of piece that would fit well in our Toy Soldier category.

I'll second the recommendation on Bleckwenn's cassette on Frederick's army, too. I hunted for it for years, then eventually found a copy on a vendor's table at our show. It is invaluable as a reference, for the illustrations and descriptions of uniform details, as for the other details about regimental and personal history that Bleckwenn included. Even with Daniel Hohrath's outstanding 2-volume set in publication, Bleckwenn's is still one to have in your library.

Also second Berliner Zinnfiguren as a source for books; over the years, I've picked up other books besides Bleckwenn's, that I had been after for years. Schirmer's book on the armies of the Seven Years War, and Ortenburg's books on the Brunswick and Hannoverian armies are titles that I found in Scholtz's book lists.

I look forward to seeing your other dioramas!

Prost!

Hi John,

thank you for your intrest. If looking for out of print german books, Berliner Zinnfiguren are always a good adress to include while searching. Berlin prices apply, but usually they are in the position to help.

Try this:

Wolfgang,

thanks for the link to Berlin Zinnfiguren, I should have had a look at their site for the books.
I have even visited the shop on my last visit to Berlin 8 years ago, a definite destination for toy soldier collectors. :)
