Can anyone tell me if they have seen these two films and what they think of them?. They sound great to me and am thinking of just buying them unseen, any comments gratefully received.

Cheers

Hi Rob. Have not seen either but Mitch started a thread on Beneath Hill 60 which is a page or so back. Has a couple of positive comments. -- Al

Rob...

Did buy both unseen Hill 60 is really good IMO but Passchendaele was poor IMO and was pleased when it ended.

Just seen Passchendaele and I agree with you Mitch. At first I had high hopes for it, but it descended into farce with the Sgt carrying the cross with the boy on it across no mans land , very poor I'm afraid and the symbolism was as subtle as a train crash. It could have been a real tribute to the incredibly heroic things the Canadian Corp did at Passchendaele , instead it was sentimental farce. The most hilarious thing was the hospital staff looking out of their tent and watching Sgt Dunne struggling with his load ala Jesus, as if they could see it all from a field Hospital!

6 out of ten for me , 5 of those for a good film set

Rob, I saw Hill 60 when it was released in April this year.

Its very good, and the way the director uses flash backs to take us away from the mud and the blood and the fighting releives the tension and show you the human side of the story.

I can thorougly reccomend it.

After I left UK in June, we travelled to Ypres in Belgium and visited the site of the explosion at Hill 60. Its been left and not rehbilitated, but nature is taking over... trees grown amongst the craters, there are ruins of pill boxes, AND below are the remains of countless poor souls who died there.
