Below is a link to the Berghof area. Click on the link, and you will see a house in the center. To the left of the house you see a lone driveway that leads to nothing...the Berghof was at the end of that driveway. If you zoom out, you can get an idea of the countryside for a diorama.

Thanks for the link.

Here's a link with some photos: http://www.thirdreichruins.com/berghof.htm

I know this isn't the Eagles Nest, but based on the Hitler home movies I have seen of the balcony etc on tv I thought the drop off from the balcony would have been steeper and higher.

me too. I was really surprised at the simplicity of the structure...considering the owner.

A couple other interesting points...the window was actually facing North, not South. The whole house was built on the North face of a small mountain, and the whole area hangs under Austria like Detroit hands over Canada.

In the real structure, the balcony is off to the side of the window, not dead center. It was built over the garage, and the driveway leading into it goes right under the window...so putting vehicles near by wouldn't seem as awkward as I first thought

I've read that Hitler was affraid of heights, thus explaining the Berghof's simple design. When Borman built the Eagles Nest, Hitler only visited it a few times because it was so high up and he was also afraid of getting stuck in the elevator. Watch "Hitlers Bodyguard", they devote a whole episode to the Berghof, and mention it throughout the whole series.
