Yes quite a mess from all the bombings and then the Soviets attack.
Cleaned up and rebuilt, especially in the Western Powers in the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s.

My wife and I visited West and East Berlin in 1981, 22 yrs after this video. It was the height of the Cold War and we went thru Check Point Charlie. There was more economic might in one square block of the west than all of East Berlin. That's when we realized we would win. We're going back to Berlin this fall and looking fwd to seeing the reunited city.

Not been to Berlin myself, but several times to Germany.
Fantastic place to visit for history fans, whether it be ancient or more recent.
Food tends to be amazing, as does the Beer !
