Bernard's 13Pdr! (1 Viewer)

The wheel rims were painted in a gunmetal/iron sort of colour mixed from silver and black. Lastly the handle of the handspike was painted brown.

Allow a few days to dry and off they go to their new home.........now back to the Alma Guards

Jeff

Yipeeee, and a tin of Gold paint and one of those body hair paint brushes, just forget what they are called lol;). Cheers mate its excellent.
Bernard.

..........and the gold paint! I won't forget

Glad you like it.

Nicely done, Jeff! I like your touch of painting the wheel rims in a gunmetal shade, it breaks up the preponderance of black.

It looks like the gun is cast with a brass tampion in place, to close the barrel. For a display of the gun in action, ie, firing, could you remove that easily from this casting, or is it solid, so you'd have to slice or file that cap off, and drill out the barrel?

Prost!

Brad, you’ve got me wondering now! The gun I painted for Brad’s RHA set a while back had an open end to the barrel and this one is closed, looking at the photo’s here I think that the mould must be full of crap and blocked.

As for the colour, well it could be either according to the various sources available.

What do you think Bernard?

Ah, OK, I see, I was looking at the upper cylinder, thinking that was the barrel. But that is the recoil piston, isn't it? My earlier observation is not valid, then.

From your pic of the muzzle, it looks like the casting is a decent-enough representation of an open barrel.

Sorry for any confusion!

Ah confusion?:confused: What confusion! :D:D There is a difference between the two sets of castings.

Bernards top and Brads below. Bernard's end is definitely blocked!:D

Looks OK to me Jeff, just so happens I am all out of 13pdr shells at the moment so couldn't fire it anyway lol.
Bernard.:D

The cannon in the old Strombecker "Battle of Yorktown" set was cast the same way-no open barrel. That was the incentive for me to get the Dremel benchtop drill press stand, so I could bore out the muzzles.

Beautiful work Jeff, even if it one of those funny green shades. Dare you to repaint it in the shade of your cruel and twisted avatar.
Excellent detailing and precision work.
