Got a slightly damage K&C seated AK soldier whose rifle has detached from his hand. Slight paint loss as well. A little leary of trying to reattach (permanently). Anyone with experience on this? Don't want to ruin the figure.

Thanks!:)

Super glue works greatfor me if it's a clean break, the trick is matching the touch up paint.

Supa Glue will do, but I'd pin the offending parts because any sidways pressure can break the bond of the glue. This is fine work, I use a 1mm drill bit and then wire as the pin.

After that you will need to fix any chipped paintwork by retouching witha matching colour or if not chipped, put on a dab of matte varnish to cover any shiny glue residue.

I have done lots of these fix ups for colletcors who have either recived dmamaged stock in the mail, or dropped them, and when completed, you wouldn't know the differnce from a mint condition figure.

regards,

John

Many good adhesives out there in the model world but superglue will do as well. Once its glued as I have fixed the AK figures before it will be fine. No real need to drill and pin as if its the figure I think it is it it will be quite hard to knock it off once adhered.

As for painting mix up the colours before hand to get the right colour if its the gun itself no problem if, its the skin tone also not a huge worry as if your colour is slightly differing you have skin shading.

Not the worst problem to happen to a figure I regularly remove arms etc to place different ones onto different figures and they are quite easy to do.

Pinning the join is a wise idea. A simple butt join--two flat surfaces butted up against one another--is not as strong as a join with a pin inserted into holes drilled into the mating surfaces. Not only does the pin supply additional strength, perpendicular to the mating faces, but it increases the area to be glued.

Superglue, better known as CA (cyano-acrylate) glue, if you got to a hobby shop, is pretty good, but I've been using 2-part epoxy glue more and more, because it's stronger in the long run. CA glue can become brittle, over time.

In this case, is the rifle held in the figure's hand, and is the hand cupped/curled to fit around the rifle? In that case, then CA glue should work pretty well on its own.

As an aside, we might want to move this thread to the Model building subforum; "Forum How-To's" is really for usage questions about the forum itself, such as how to upload pictures, how to edit my signature, and so on.

Prost!

We use both types o glue If the surface is not tightly fit together better to use 2-part epoxy glue
