I know there have been various polls and threads about what is the best war movie, or top five best movies, or worst, etc., etc.

But as for the best moment -- I saw Gettysburg again last night, and for my money the best war movie moment is Joshua Chamberlain (Jeff Daniels) yelling bayonette, just before his Maine regiment charged down Litle Round Top in the movie Gettysburg.

In Red Dawn, Powers Booth, downed F15 driver, points out allies in WWIII and how they are holding back the Soviets. He says " And over here there are 750 million screamin' Chinese holding 'em back" One resistance fighter says "I thought there were a billion Chinese" Booth returns "There were".

Not the best but memorable because He then douses the fire with the rest of his alcoholic drink, causing it to flare up.

So many to choose from;final Volley fire scene in Zulu,First confrontation between outlaws and the Magnificent 7,Damaged Spitfire that flies off into distance and then you see it far away turn around and come roaring back at German Bomber from Battle of Britain,first 30mins Saving private Ryan,From Longest day the moement the German sentry first see's invasion fleet,John Wayne's 'Fill your hands you son ** * ****!! from True Grit and the classic 44 Magnum speech spat out by Clint Eastwood at the end of Dirty Harry.Each a classic!:)

Those are some good ones but I think I must ponder this for a while; perhaps I will "endeavor to persevere".;):D

The scene towards the end in "Carry On Up The Khyber" with Sid James and the rest of the gang being very British while the room falls apart around them. Or the Kharzi's troops reaction when the "First Foot and Mouth Regiment" finally demonstrate what's not worn under their kilts.

Cheers

As Rob noted, there are so many but here are some of my favorite War movie scenes:
Battle scenes:
Star Wars, Attack on the Death Star
Lord of the Rings, Return of the King, Charge and battle at Pelennor Fields
Lord of the Rings, the Two Towers, Battle for Helms Deep
Gladiator, Battle in Germania and Duel between Maximus and Commodus
Saving Private Ryan, the battle for the bridge
Kelly’s Heroes, the battle for the town
The 300, first battle
Outlaw Josie Wales, fight with the Yellow Legs
Battle of Britain, Interception of Northern Attack

Non-battle scenes:
Battle of Britain:
Robert Shaw ****ehawk scene, “DON'T THINK! Don't just glance! LOOK! Search for the bas***ds!”;
Dowding phone conversation with the Air Minister, “I'm not very interested in propaganda. If we're right, they'll give up. If we are wrong, they'll be in London in a week!.”
Kelly’s Heroes:
First scene with Oddball, “These engines are the fastest in any tanks in the European Theater of Operations, forwards or backwards. You see, man, we like to feel we can get out of trouble, quicker than we got into it.”;
Oddball phone call to Bellamy, “Ah, Bellamy, for cryin' out loud. That's the the stinking, most awful, stupid joke and you're always pullin' that stinking awful stupid joke. You don't want in this thing, you don't get in this thing. I cut you out of everything. I don't need you. Sixty feet of bridge I can get almost anywhere. Schmuck!”;
Oddball reaction to three Tiger discovery, “To a New Yorker like you, a hero is some type of weird sandwich, not some nut who takes on three tigers.”;
Big Joe scene with captured German Colonel, “Look! We're not worried about the German army, we've got enough troubles of our own. To the right General Patton, to the left the British Army, to the rear our own god**** artillery, and besides all that it's raining. And the only good thing to say about the weather: it keeps our air corps from blowing us all to Hell because its too lousy to fly, versteh?”;
General Colt scene learning of breakthrough, What good is it having a communication officer than can't communicate"...“Get the hell out of here Bonzer, we got the game on.”
The 300, Queen Gorgo confrontation with Theron [while holding sword into his body] “This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this. I am not your Queen!”
Many more....:D

Come on guys -- you're supposed to pick one -- its easier when you can choose 10 or 20 or more. TRy for just one!

On a more serious note, the opening scene of Bridge on the River Kwai, with the stalwart Brit POWs marching back to camp after a grueling, death defying march, whistling the Colonel march in perfect unison. Sends shivers down my spine every time. Speaks volumes on class and character. Mike

I resemble that remark.:D One should "Do or do not, there is no try...":D
Afterall, I only had 17 and it was not easy.:rolleyes:

Ooooh, tough one. I'm sure my choice would change on a daily basis, but one that always get's the hairs up is in Black Hawk Down, just as the camera fades on to the load speakers at the base, playing 'Falling to Pieces' by Faith No More, as the Rangers and Delta gear up for going 'Downtown'.

Perfect music for this section of the film (I know that in reality, it was Guns n' Roses, but I think this track sets the mood perfectly).

Yo Troopers, this is an easy one for me, the start of "Once Upon A Time In The West" cannot beat this for a movie opening.
Bernard.:cool:

Excellent selection -- I also like the scene where Bill Holden swims across the river telling his comando brethern to "kill him", "kill him" -- referring to Alec Guiness.

The scene where Omar Sharif appears in the distance approching Lawerence in Lawerence of Arabia. Love that scene.

Monty Python life of Brian- Where the guards are trying not to laugh :D:D:D

Warwise to pick one has to be Legions appearing over the hill near the end of Spartacus.

Hasn't be done since - they were going to have legions facing off against one another in Gladiator , but the production ran out of money.:)

Now that's a pity, if they had only known how good the receipts were going to be.:( There is a small version in the Last Legion, a rather fun B movie if you don't get hung up on historical detail. It is about a legend afterall.;)
I wonder if we will ever get the sequel for Gladiator? I have read that a screenplay for a Gladiator sequel was praised by Russell Crowe and Ridley Scott. Maybe we'll get those legions afterall.:D

Agreed Spitfrnd.
The Last Legion is a pretty enjoyable movie that doesn't pretend to take itself seriously. Love the "interesting" Byzantine warrior in it....:):);)

Apparently She loved doing it as well; I know I love watching her "action" scenes.;):D

I forgot one!!!! Another classic movie scene is the one from Fistfull of Dollars where Clint Eastwood confronts the cowboys who shot at his mule.

'I don't think it's nice you laughing...:eek:

Love it!:)

Two of them, both from "Jaws"

The first-when Brody is throwing out a chum line and sees the shark for the first time, and slowly backs into the Orca's cabin, and says to Quint, "You're gonna need a bigger boat".

The other-the scene that night aboard the Orca, when Brody, Hooper and Quint all bond, and Quint delivers that great monologue, telling his tale of the sinking of the USS Indianapolis. "Very first light, Chief, sharks come cruisin'..."

"I'll never put on a life jacket again".

Prost!

That is an awesome moment. First time i saw that i had the hairs standing up on my arm. I had no prior knowledge of events at Gettysburg before seeing the film but that scene just blew me away as I had no idea what would happen next.
I love the bit where, after the battle, an officer walks up to Chamberlain and asks to shake his hand out of respect.
