What is everybody's favorite war scene? Mine are the Battle of Carentan in Band of Brothers and Omaha Beach in Saving Private Ryan.

the first 10 minutes of Gladiator....special the artillery fire.

Hard to argue with the above...

Just about all of the BoB battle scenes were amazing - really capturing the tension, the unsurity of whats ahead and the absolute brutality expected of each man.

The opening to Gladiator was actually a deal struck with the government in Malta (Ithink) where they were going to clear a wooded area and the director approached to do that recreation of a Roman battle.

Landing on Omaha in SPR was awesome.

I have to add Charge of the Light Brigade both the 1930's and 1960's versions, Glory when they are charging the fort where they were all wiped out and the climax in Battle of Britain:

Omaha Beach in SPR and Picketts Charge in Gettysburg.

The Thin Red Line has some nice battlefield shots. Looked real intense crawling through that high grass with tracers zipping by.

I think the final charge down the hill in We Were Soldiers was pretty awsome!

Lay me dun
In the cold cold grun

I'm partial to the castle bombardment scene in "Lord of the Rings", don't
know which one but with the war elephants and such. Awesome!!!

First battle scene in Gladiator is tops for me, just wish it had been longer. My other favorites include the charge of the Riders of Rohan in Return of the King, the last scene in the Battle of Britain and the first battle scene in the 300 ("Come and Take Them"). Finally, who can forget the Death Star attack scene in Star Wars?

BTW, the LOTR castle bombardment scene is also in the Return of the King.

Braveheart battlescenes were cool

Spartacus , especially when the roman legions appeared over the hill. (gladiator was supposed to have legions battling each other at the end of the film, but they ran out of money and scrapped the scene:),

the scene in Stalingrad where the convict german soldiers are fighting off the russians in tanks in the snow:cool:

I agree with many of these choices, there are so many. Would go with Omaha Beach SPR, along with the scenes were the medic is shot. Really hard watching that boy die. Also like the Thin Red Line scenes in the tall grass. They made me cringe wondering what they would run into. Also liked the troops forming for the charge in Gettysburg. -- lancer

I agree with everyones additions - SPR, BOB, Sparticus, etc...

How about some Civil War : Final Battle scene of Glory - Charge of Ft. Wagner and Picketts Charge in Gettysburg !

NAPOLEONIC : Waterloo - Charge of the French Dragoons !

WWI : FLYBOYS - dogfight scenes (not very historically correct though)

WWII : Enemy at the Gates - Early German / Russian scenes in Stalingrad !

a few that stand out in my mind. :D

I like the Battle scenes in Last of the Mohican's, the fort siege, and the ambush by the Hurons.:)

One of my favorites is the Longest Day, where the Canadians or French attacks the German occupied casino. The opening attack with the aerial view was fantastic. Also in a Bridge Too Far, where the British armoured column "walks in" their atillery fire on the German position in the woods. Imagine seeing that coming toward you.

Great choice, you have my vote. Also SPR's opening scene: Omaha, probably the best ever. But also Robert Duvall leading the chopper charge against the VC village in Apocalypse Now, to the sound of Wagner...

The opening battle sequence was actually filmed in Bourne Wood, Surrey in the UK (I think in the credits it mentions a thanks to the people of Surrey).
The Colosseum set I believe was in Malta.

I think there was quite a good battle scene in Kingdom of Heaven as well near the end. But all those mentioned were awesome scenes in their own way.

I couldn't agree more. It is more difficult to limit your choices here than for favorite movies and that is hard enough.;)

Agree the above are all great but also the t34 attack scene in cross of iron .............. do we just get one?

Far too many to choose from. I never get tired of the Zulu's 1st standing up out of the grass beating their shields and their disciplined advance.ZULU of course.
my 2 bits.

There are so many really good moments , but I saw Gettysburg again last night, and for my money the best war movie moment is Joshua Chamberlain (Jeff Daniels) yelling bayonette, just before his Maine regiment charged down Little Round Top.
