This series, for my money, is one of the best series around as it follows Jimmy McGill, a less than upright attorney, his friend and sometimes lover Kim Wexler, a hard working attorney, his brother Chuck, who is constantly belittling him and trying to destroy him and Mike Ehrementraut, a salty retired Philly cop, who is a tough customer.

Season two just ended and I'm sure it will soon be available on Netflix as season one is.

Here's an appreciation: The Ballad of Slipping Jimmy

It already on Netflix Uk :wink2:

We should note that it's the "prequel" to Breaking Bad, and provides some of the backstory for Jimmy's incarnation in that story as Saul Goodman, and for Mike, and for Hector and Tuco Salamanca. We even see the idiot Yuppie Ken ("Ken Wins") in an episode in the first season.

Vince Gilligan has come up with a great story, between these two series, a modern Greek tragedy, full of characters following the classic perils of the worst aspects of our nature. The performances are all excellent. And Rhea Seahorn is a babe!

"With any luck, in a couple of days, I'll be managing a Cinnabon in Omaha."

Prost!

Rhea Seehorn (Kim Wexler) is the great revelation of this series.

The ending of season two may be the beginning of transformation of Jimmy into Saul. Whenever that happens, I hope the series continues.

This is a great series. I may be one of the few who watch it who has never seen "Breaking Bad" but I really enjoy it. The relationship between Jimmy and his brother is classic. Funny and depressing at the same time.

I started watching BCS when the second season started. My dad and I watched the first season on DVD the Sunday before the second season started. I was hooked, and it also made me rethink my original disdain for BB. My brother had gotten the complete series of BB on disc and lent it to me. I just finished watching it last week. I got to see BCS' season finale yesterday, and I can hardly wait to see how the cliffhanger elements get picked up in the next season.

Prost!

BB was one of the best series ever, in my opinion. I didn't watch it when it first came out. I saw the entire series on Netflix. One of my favorite sequences was matching the words of the song "Windy" to the prostitute drug addict Wendy. That was just truly inspired.

You have to wonder if even the most virtuous amongst us could turn into Walter, given the right set of circumstances.

One could wonder. But Id argue strongly against it. People make good and bad decisions every day. IMO we have free will. Our minds are not hard wired. There is such a thing as individual responsibility and accountability.

Moreover, Id not want to live in a world where actions are predetermined by DNA or the "right set" of circumstances.

I have to admit when this show first advertised I wasn't holding my breath. As I enjoyed BB so much I thought that this was going to be another terrible spin-off but was proven wrong from the first episode through the end of this season. Kudos to the writers and the actors/actresses. Interestingly I just saw an old episode of Seinfeld which Bob Odenkirk was in. I think he played Elaine's boyfriend.
Thanks Brad for the link-great article!

Ah, yes, "The Abstinence".

"Well, y'see, Elaine, my dream was that when I became a doctor, I'd break up with whoever I was dating."

Prost!

Started watching it again last night very good and can see why Brad like it ^&grin

Another great season. One of the best shows on TV. I'll be sorry to see it come to an end. So many great characters. Curious to see if it ends like BB with Saul/Jimmy getting his just reward for making so many bad decisions.

I started rewatching the entire series on Netflix before the final season starts on April 18. What a show! It has it all. Great characters, writing, plot, drama, comedy. It probably helps to watch Breaking Bad first, but this show stands on its own. Odenkirk is fantastic. Can't recommend it highly enough. And so great to be able to watch all five seasons now.

Better Call Saul...
one of the best tv shows ever produced...
something for everyone...rated 98% on Rotten Tomatos...

I just re-watched Season 5 a few weeks ago to refresh my memory...

I think the first episode of season 6 deals with Nacho Varga and what's left of the Salamancas...
the Salamancas...what a dysfunctional family they are...
loved Mark Magolis as Hector Salalmanca...ringing his bell like he's having a seizure...what a hoot...

so many interesting character...Gus Fring...Mike...Chuck his brother...Lalo & Tuco...Kim...
not to leave out "It's all good man"...Saul Goodman himself...

will probably re-watch Breaking Bad between weekly episodes...

also...if you have not seen it...
watch El Camino...the continuing story of Jesse Pinkman...
I read there is a possibility that a follow up on that may come in the future...

there are rumors that Brian Cranston might even make an appearance as Walter White in this last season...

I read Odenkirk's recent book and he comes off as a bit of an unlikeable control freak/woke. Have to give him credit, though. He has had quiet a career. I didn't realize that he had been around so long. He actually wrote the Chris Farley SNL skit "in a van down by the river." The basic theme of his book was that he had failed many more times than succeeded. He hit pay dirt with "Better Call Saul." He is perfect for the role. The dilemma with Jimmy/Saul is that he is superficially charming and likeable. Everyone wants him to succeed but underneath he is always Slippin' Jimmy pulling a con. It reminds me a bit of Seinfeld and the season finale where the show basically asked the audience why they liked he characters when they were despicable people.

Great show, but if the production waited any longer to get this last season out, some of the cast might have passed away from old age. And if would have taken CGI to make the rest of them look as young as their characters should be.

Prost!

I've worked my way back through season 4 of this series. I had almost forgotten what an intense and ugly love/hate relationship existed between Jimmy and Chuck. There were some parts that are difficult to watch even though it is obviously fiction. One thing that stands out to me in rewatching the series is that even though Chuck was an unlikeable, arrogant backstabber that he really had Jimmy's number. He could see through the cons and charisma to understand that he was always a fraud. I bet most fans of this show like Jimmy/Saul. It's an interesting reflection on the audience.

Jimmy does play a somewhat unscrupulous character...
always some con to get his way...
almost pitied while still charismatic...
and it's brilliant how the script writers make it work...so far...
but I think we know that's coming to an end with his Cinnabon job and the FBI confiscating his house belongings...

I especially like Mike...and he's more than a little unsavory and shady himself...

an interesting reflection on the audience...lol...I rooted for the gangsters in Goodfellas...

great episode last night...
"Slippin Jimmy" and Kim pulled a hilarious con on Howard...
of course it didn't really matter...
as Lalo Salamanca met up with him in the last few minutes of the show...
still...one of the best episodes to date...

I'm through the first five episodes of the current (and final season). What a great show. I'm consistently amazed at how every character is interesting. No matter how small the part. There is hardly a single one wasted in the entire series. That can't be done without great writing. The only uninteresting character in the series is Mike's daughter-in-law. For some reason, her story never really resonated. It is the standard TV character fueling the actions of the major players. Fortunately, that is an outlier in this show.
