Big eBay Seller Changes (1 Viewer)

Ups! My bad.. but still nothing changed in the sellers favor since...actually it's getting worse: now eBay is going to start counting "open cases" against the sellers DSR...if we had an alternative: eBay would be an empty place in a NY minute...
Alibaba (China) recently acquired two large eBAy auction listing services : Vendio and Auctiva...I guess a big war is coming soon...

Ha! What a Joke.....now they are pushing Free Shipping!

Figures, they probably couldn't figure out a way to charge the seller a fee
for shipping!

Now they expect you to pay 12% fees (including Paypal) and ship the item
for free......oh and don't bother with insurance because the buyer doesn't have to use it....he can just send the damaged item back to the buyer for a full refund!:D

Oh Joy! you can get a 5 star shipping rating if you jump through hoops!:D I always ship the day payment is received and have had several buyers comment on how quickly items arrived......its just good business.:)

Well my opinion is simply no change in Ebay's policy of focusing on the sellers customers (the buyers) and ignoring its customers
(the sellers)

This is exactly what happens when you have people will no real related business experience running a service driven operation.

I have every reason to like Ebay as I have used it almost since the begining. I have always paid my bills in a timely fashion, sold quality items, delivered promply and spent freely in many catagories.

Its just a shame that they do not see the value in everyone that uses their service. I believe sellers should be held to high standards, and buyers should also be expected to be honest.:)

Is this really such a difficult concept?

Al,

I'm all game for a war...would love to see EBAY get rope a doped!

Seems if you have the $$$, web abilities and your not a stupid one sided service it would be a rather easy KO!

Don't worry John...they are charging us 3% on the shipping through Paypal...they figured out a way to stick us on that a long time ago...

I would seem so, yes....

When we gave Changing Guard Auctions a whirl, I thought we had a very good thing going. Our challenge came in #2 of your list...the web abilities. The software we were using was excellent, but the people standing behind it weren't, so some bugs never got ironed out. We tried several guys to fix things without success. We still have the domain name and the site...

As I've said before...if someone has some web know-how, I think a site like CGA could work well. Sure, it'd take some investment to get the name out there, but eBay isn't making friends right now.

If anyone would be interested in taking it off our hands and tweaking things to get it running smoothly, we'd be open to offers ;)

Paypal gets 3% of shipping.

John is absolutely right - they are trying to ram free shipping down our throats more than ever. It won't happen and I don't think many will do it. If eBay tries to force the issue there will be severe blow back.

As far as open cases go, I had a case opened against me something like 15 months ago, last one before that was over a year prior to that. That case that got opened up was immediately closed by eBay when they saw all the photos and condition write up. I'm not worried about open cases. Items not received? I think I've had one package lost in the past 2 or 3 years and I resolved it.

I wonder how much the feedback in its current form costs them compared to what it was like prior to this DSR and anti seller campaign. I've placed several calls and I'll keep their operators on the line as long as I can to tie up their employees. I'll 4, 5, 6 times and stay on as long as I can asking all sorts of questions. I'll have them walk me through entire policy pages. I do that when somebody leaves me a comment I feel is not justified and they don't intervene.

Sure I have other things to do in the course of my day but I will cost them as much as I possibly can. What's a few $hundred bucks to them?

That's exactly how it had been for years. The best change eBay made to feedback was when they made it transaction specific. So only a person who dealt with another could leave feedback. Before then, if I didn't respond to a question somebody asked me then they could hit with negative feedback without ever having made a purchase. I saw this happen all the time.

Yo Trooper, agree with what you are saying IE: if you buy anything from an auction room you are looking at 15 to 22% buyers premium. Also with ebay you have 3.4% Paypal Charge deducted when they pay. But we are talking a worldwide service, try and put an add in your local paper for any items, cost you an arm & leg and its only local to your area. So by comparison ebay is not a bad deal.
Bernard.

Bernard...that may be true that an ad in the local newspaper costs an arm and a leg...but the 9% that Ebay charges cost the other arm and leg...again...I'm both a buyer and seller...I would like to see both parties split the 9% fee...4 1/2% each to the buyer and seller...

Ha!

You know Michael, Paypal is the one service I really don't mind paying for.
I have always been able to speak to someone when I needed to. I always found them helpful, and felt like a valued customer.

I believe they value my business over the years, and have had them assist me more then once on issues I had with problem buyers.:)

.....................................................................................................

Feedback! used to me a mismanaged mess.......its getting slightly better, but not by much.

Under the old system I had like 15 negitives on my record, all from non-paying bidders! Even though Ebay could clearly see the buyer had won the auction then simply refused to respond or pay they would not remove the negitive. They would always say try and work it out! I guess they expected you to just ship the item without payment!:D

Now its a little better, a non-paying bidder can't leave negitive feedback, why a seller can't leave it either is beyond me.

On a positive side, problem transactions seem to be in decline!:)

John...
I don't mind the Paypal either...
when I was in business...our credit card transactions at the restaurant ranged between 2.75 to 3.00%...
it's quick pay...guaranteed...easy access..and good phone support...

I don't like their International surcharge...but...it's a fair price...

I bought 600 shares of Ebay and am doing well on it...

on a side note...

Ebay's Lorrie Norrington, the head of its core auction business, left the company today...citing family reasons...Norrington has headed the business since July 2008, several months after Donahoe took over the reins of the auction giant from Meg Whitman.

Well... may be we will get lucky and Donahue will follow suit :D
