My friend asked me to put all his commercial bisons and Indians into a diorama. I was to also incorporate an old Indian piece that I had done previously as well as two homemade heavy metal cast bisons.

To cut down on costs, I managed to source a crate box and a suitable ikea frame for this project. The pcs show the basic elements for this project.

Look forward to seeing this one progress :salute:::salute::

Hi Grey, Paddy, Steve and all,
thx for yr nice premature comments and likes. I’m really feeling the heat right now…. Hahaha. I chipped away and removed my crow figure with upraised hand from its base. The metal cast buffalo is heavy! I note that the commercial buffalo are resin cast and are much lighter.

Nice close up on the vignette. Good pose on the figure. Looking forward Victor to see what your brushwork on these two will look like.

Cheers,
Grey

Great little vignette all on it's own that figure raising his bloodied hand in thanks to the godss of the Buffalo and of the Hunt !:salute::

Hi Steve and Grey,

Hi britfarmer,

tx for yr nice comment.
I ve constructed the bkgd for this piece from cardbd. Nicely gesso primed. The gesso provides tooth for ptg the bkgd

I’ve just knocked up a simple wood base cut to the correct length. Played around with a few options to place all the proposed figs. This is more or less what my friend and I settled upon.
He also wanted me to remove all the bases to fit seamlessly into the scene.

Your dry run looks is bringing all sorts of visions into my imagination Victor well done.:salute::

Just a thought, but rather than remove the bases, build up the areas surrounding their bases so as to keep them more secure making little dips to slip the models in and a bit of ground cover to cover up any gaps around the bases !?

This scene is looking great Victor. Thanks for sharing.

Cheers,
Grey

Hi Grey n Steve,

thx for yr inputs. I’ve ptd the bkgd n base in acrylics. Will overpaint in oils. Will use yr suggestion to retain some of the bases for attachment.

I posed the figures on my proposed base. Then I found that the figure base was made of very hard diecast metal. Not easy to cut. So I levelled off parts of the large base and epoxied the figures with bases onto the large base. Then added more putty to cover the joints and repainted the whole base.

I also painted the sky bkgd in oils. Moving along with this now

I raised the base on stands and added groundwork, then foliage and finally a tree branch and rocks. More figures were now epoxied in place.

Hi Louis,

tx for yr kind input. I posed another two more bisons to be added to the scene. These are cast in metal so are pretty heavy. I’ll have to strengthen the stands.

This hunting scene Victor is really coming together for you. Good work and thank you for sharing.

Hi Grey

tx for yr inputs. I decided to “warm” up the scene. I ptd the grass an ochre tint and used warm white led lights. I tk that this really lifts up the scene. The lights were fixed to a strip of wood. The frame mat was cut out and magnetic latches were added. Finished!!!
