Reading the movies thread on Black Soldier Blues, I wonder if there are any black collectors out there (in this forum?) or if collecting is mainly a WASP thing. Any thoughts?

I have black soldiers (both African and African American) in my collection from Britains, K&C, Del Prado, and Beau Geste from the American Revolution, WWI and WWII. I wish more were offered. I know that Figarti has done figures for Vietnam and Ted Toy for the Civil War and US Marines. Wm. Hocker has a number black soldiers in his various subject lines, including a set of Civil War abolitionists.

At the January Detroit Show there were Black collectors buying figures. In fact, I talked with a man who has every set of Jenkin's figures and he was buying other sets of figures. I don't personally know any Detroit collectors but I know they come to the shows and buy. Leadmen

I certainly know that there are very many collectors (if not the majority) that do not fit the A, S or P part of that acronym.

Paulo,
I believe WIC means White Irish Catholic and many Irish names start with Mc so they are called Micks.

Are you taking the Mick ;) I would say the term "Mick" comes from the popular Irish name Michael, same as the other popular term for an Irish guy "Paddy" comes from Patrick.

Matt,
That's my middle name!

Hi, Viriato!

I have been collecting toy soldiers for some 20 years now and I'm yet to see the first black collector. I can't really tell the reason, one friend of mine (he is balck but does not collect), told me it's because toy soldiers celebrate the white man's history. I can't really say if that's the case, though.

:D It is, I was just kidding Mike. Btw, there seem to be a lot of Matts involved in this hobby

And Mikes, Matt! And I mean a ton. Someone yells "Mike " on this forum, and everyone runs for the exits:D It is nice though to be backed up by a bunch of Matts.
