I got into K&C's "TW" (THE WEST) Custer's Last Stand series of sets in about 2002 just as they were being retired after being introduced in 1998. I waited for more new "TW" sets that would be issued in 2006, but were not. Then they were suppose to be issued in 2009, but then it was rather the circa 1850 2nd Dragoons & Comanche Warriors. I finally gave up on getting new "TW" sets and reduced my diorama of Custer's Last Stand to a smaller 17 by 27 inch area.
I was going to just go with this smaller diorama and let it go at that. Then in 2012 new 7th Cavalry sets for Custer's Last Stand were issued under the current "TRW" (THE REAL WEST). I did add K&C set TRW030 of a dead horse in late 2012 and in 2013 I added sets TRW024 & TRW028 of the Corporal swinging his rifle butt & the Sergeant reloading his rifle. I figured that this was all I was going to be adding my Custer's Last Stand diorama from the new TRW series by K&C.
Then @ the 2014 Old Toy Soldier Show 9/28/2014 near Chicago I saw that my local dealer, Paul Herrmann, had one TRW set left with him at his show tables and I decided to get it. I then took a 2nd look at K&C's website on the currently available TRW sets and I decided to do a bit of revising of my diorama and I ordered and secured 7 more sets, 3 for the 7th Cav. troopers & 4 for the Indian warriors. Between the OTS Show and today, October 2nd I added "Red Stripe" / TRW063(P), "Beaver Heart" /TRW042(P), "Brown Bull" / TRW043(P), "Little Wolf" / TRW044(P) & "Running Buffalo" / TRW047(P) for the Indian warrior side. For the Troopers I got "Capt. Miles Keogh" / TRW022, "On his Knees" / TRW031 & "Capt. Tom Custer" / TRW054.
I have placed most of the new TRW troopers on the far right side of diorama along with the new TRW Indians. I placed the Capt. Tom Custer and Capt. Miles Keogh figures just behind General Custer as that seemed more appropriate. So I now have 23 sets of the old K&C THE WEST series and 11 sets of K&C's new THE REAL WEST. They seem to blend in OK I think. I have to say of course that the new THE REAL WEST sets are much more detailed than the old circa 1998 THE WEST sets.
See five overview photos below. I will post two close up photos right after that in a second posting by me.
