This past Saturday, the Southern California Toy Soldier Collectors Society met at Bob Phillips house in Portola Hills, California, to view his collection. We then drove six blocks to see Neal Crowley's collection. By the way, one of the large wild fires, Santiago Canyon, broke out on Sunday very near both their houses.

I don't know much about Heyde figures, but I am told that Bob's collection contains many rare sets. I do know that his presentation and display was marvelous. Heyde was known for vignettes of unusual subjects.

Photos two, three, and four: North Africa vignette

Photo five: Boer War scene

Bob's most prized possession is this Elastolin(?) castle he recently acquired.

I see I am not the only collector with a museum in his home! All I can say is wow!! That is some amazing collection of classic toy soldiers, Mr. Phillips!

I am not a glossy or classic kind-of-guy, but those photos show some very interesting figures. I especially like the North Africa and the Artic pictures. If I were to get into glossy figures, this would one of the fellows I would contact, along with UCLA1967 (Mike).

I wonder, just how many Mike's (or Michael's or any of the other many variations of the name) there are in the world

The castle is stunning! Hopefully the fires have missed this.

These are fantastic! The Elephant Trap and Artic are my favorites. Mignot produced sets along the line of Hyde and the Mignot sets are nicely presented in the Red Covered Book "Petit Soldats"(sp?), but I have never located a pictorial book that covered the production of Hyde. Does Mr. Phillips know of such a book?

I'll ask him after the fire crisis passes. See my new thread today on subject.
