Hello,
I figure we could use a thread on this topic. Reading all your posts got me motivated to dig my Naval Column out of my closet. I thought I would post some photos of it to kick this thread off. My set is a bit of a hybrid. I purchased the basic set from Jim Hillestad in 1989. Before the year was out I specially ordered another pair of oxen. Then, in 1997, I specially ordered from Len Taylor 4 more oxen with yolks, three sailors, ammo mule with handler, and a walking and mounted officer. The oxen casting did not change over the 8 year period. The sailors did as you can see from the photo. Not only do the original/older sailors need a higher SPF sunscreen, but they are almost 1/4 inch taller. The biggest change was in the yolks. The last two I got in 1997 were inferior to the older ones and actually bring the oxen closer together. Anyway, when the column is assembled its just short of 40 inches. It is probably my favorite set. Hope you enjoy the photos.

Looks very nice.I've always hoped someone would do Boer War in matte but I don't think this is a very popular period because the British are in Khaki and the boers are in civilian clothes. The Boers don't seem to draw much interest as the wild charging Fuzzy Wuzzys or fearless Afghans and of course the majestic Zulus. For some reason the late 19th cen.colonial period doesn't command much interest whereas in 25mm wargaming it is very popular.

Mark,
I think you are right about the Boer War. Color is perhaps lacking for the collectors, but crimson is deadly around Boers with mausers!

I think the Boer War is very interesting in that I think it was the first of the modern wars even through a lot of people thpoght that the Russo-Japanese War was.British military tactics were based on the lessons learned from this war until WWI shot that all to hell.

I will have to dig out my favorite Trophy Boer war set: a British regiment in Khaki marching and a little white dog is running along with them :)

The Boer wars are also interesting by British army using armored trains.

Al: Please check out my 4th album, photo #4. Is that the set your are refering to?

This Boer War stuff is beautiful. The highlanders are great and that oxen hauled artillery set is the type of set that high-lights any collection. -- lancer
