These are areas which are conspicuously under-represented by current Mfr's of fine matte finished figures. I am considering using my TF x-mas rivet points to buy the WB Museum figure pictured below but would love to see more develop in these areas in future. I've also posted photos of a few recent ebay items to sort of illustrate what I am hoping to see some day. I am wondering how much interest in these areas some of you have?

These are some of my favorite periods. for some unexplainable reason I am drawn to khaki clad troops. I have been able to find quite a few old glossy Boer war and Sudan troops but it has not been easy

Like those red coats at Tel-el-Kabir and Majuba Hill but I also like the khaki at Spion Kop. I could be tempted by both if they're matte. -- lancer

I have gotten the Museum Collection and would love more colonial ranges. The French Armee D' Afrique would be a colorful group to produce.

Count me in! If WB can do a whole series on the Indian Mutiny I think they would be a good candidate for the Sudan and or Northwest Frontier. They certainly can do an outstanding job in both matte and glossy as we have seen in the Zulu series.

If WB would do a Boer War range I would collect it in gloss or matte.

I would collect Boer War in Matte.I would love NWF in 1890's.Would love Belgian Congo's Force Publique.

If someone could produce a series of small river gunboats:cool: or launches for Nile or African warfare, and/or an armored train, I'd buy 'em in a heartbeat!

Agree 100% if they are priced reasonable.

These periods are interesting, and utterly unrepresented in matt. I would love the armored trains and gunboats (I have Trophy versions of both). However, if I were wishing for an unrepresented period to be done in matt, it would be India/Northwest Frontier. Just have a look at the fun Elephant drawn guns, camel mounted screw guns, and colorful regiments of the Indian Army done by Sommerset, and you will see that this subject screams for matt production. Andy talked about doing it as a 25th Anniversary release, as his first releases in June, 1984 were NW Frontier Seaforths, but he backburnered it. June, 2009 is around the corner, and I haven't heard anything about a 25th Anniversary release.

Pretty good feedback for 12 hours or so, and it seems there is a fair amount of interest in these periods, not only on this forum but I suspect in the real world as well. The rumored NWF stuff would be very exciting to see I think, and I am keeping my fingers crossed for that for sure.

Sometimes I wish I'd stayed in the gloss world and kick myself for parting with a lot of the fine glossies from this general era that I used to own. Trophy and Dragon Crest khaki clad troops from Sudan, Trophy Boer War Black Watch sets, Little Legion and Trophy Camel Corps and mounted Dervishes......I guess I sort of figured these would eventually reappear in more detailed matte form some day.....I can be very patient if I have to. :)

The frustrating thing is that you cannot even find these currently being made in gloss that are easily available from US dealers. They are more prevalent from England but the exchange rate is a killer. This is why WB would be ideal as well as K&C as sources for new issues. WB's recent Sudan pieces would make a welcome series start. I wish WB would make NWF sets like these:

Louis, I couldn't agree (and hope for) more! I painted these in gloss but just think what K&C could do with sets like these

If someone can provide enough photos or drawings of the gunboats of the period, I will make one ,taking note of my materials cost. I have at least 2 - 3photos to work off of , but it is always nice to have more. Either I can explore the ability to mass produce these, for a fair resale price or do a blow by blow how to ,for those that might have some building talent...Attached is the Sultan, one of the newer 1897 gunboats. Very cool paint job. Are those Tradition castings? That is exactly the type of subject that I would love to see done in K&C's level of quality in matt. Beau Geste makes a good deal of glossy Indian Army stuff, so have the castings, and make some very nice matt WWII items as Honour Bound, so maybe they are in the best position to give it a go.

Thanks Louis, yes the top set is Tradition and the other one is by Fusilier Miniatures and is the subject of the how-to paint project I did last year. We can only hope that K&C produce a matt version someday.

Michael, is that one of the Nile River gunboats used during the Omdurman campaign? There are some really exciting descriptions of these "parked" along the bank behind the zariba the night before the battle occurred scanning the countryside with searchlights.....kind of an eerie scene from the sounds of it.

Even these Fusilier (I think?) sets are hard to find now. I guess the stone work pieces were sort of too fragile and generally did not tend to survive shipping in most cases, but here is another example of the sort of thing I'd really love to see revisited in earnest.

Dave, you did what?!!!! I think you should go and stand in the corner for a while :D

The Sudan was one of my favourite wargaming periods years ago and I have fond memories of painting hundreds and hundreds of Dervishes

Yes, this was one of the the prefabs, that were mfg. in England and dismantled for shipping to the Sudan..There were also some of the primitive types left over from Gordon. I actually have photos of them, but they are so ugly, as to be not interesting for building..Michael
