Boer War, Sudan Reconquest, NWF (3 Viewers)

I think that set is a real toy soldier classic and is crying out to be produced
in current styles it would be a must have for me.

Yes if a company like WB made it like their current Zulu line--either/and glossy and matt i am sure it would attract a lot of us colonial collectors.

Okay, sorry for the ineptitude. Search for: Gordon royal artillery unit. Item number is 190280838270. Around $500 for the lot.

Hey guys, if anyone is interested, or rich enough, those Somerset elephants listed on evil-bay are a great bargain. The Somerset site lists those sets at $920 so the $500 buy-it-now price is pretty unbeatable. I have no stake in this other than to wish I had the money, but those Somerset elephants are the best on the market, IMO. Ron Ley makes a great product. -- lancer

Yes, this was one of the the prefabs, that were mfg. in England and dismantled for shipping to the Sudan..There were also some of the primitive types left over from Gordon. I actually have photos of them, but they are so ugly, as to be not interesting for building..Michael

Michael,
Could you post those uninteresting, ugly boats if you still have them?
They would be "interesting" to see, as I'm reading about Gordon !

These are from contemporary accounts and artists interpretations of Gordon's ships. They were small converted steamers, except for my ship, which was of newer design.. Michael

Hi Dave,
I am interested in Victorian period wars, specially the development of the machine gun and artillery during this period.
Saw that you have nice sets related to Sudan/Boer period.

Mike,

Those are very nice ships. Thanks for posting them.

The Boer War has never appealed to collectors. I am not sure why?
I would collect it but I am not sure if many others would.

I believe that the main drawback to the Boer War is that both sides wore rather drab uniforms/clothing. Most collectors want more colorful subjects.

I personally love this era. I just won some trophy figures on fleabay to all to my troops.

William Hocker has a BOER war and NWF range, some nice pieces in the lineup also.

I love Bill Hocker's stuff. I just wish that his Boer War British had tan/brown helmets rather than the white. The british had already started coloring their helmets during the Zulu War. They learned rather quickly that against the Boers the white helmets were too good of an aiming point.

I wonder if Bill would paint the helmets the darker color if asked? Just a thought.

With the Boer war , reconquest of Sudan and NWF you gotta love khaki and irregular enemies......................kind of like Iraq and Afghanistan

These are areas which are conspicuously under-represented by current Mfr's of fine matte finished figures. I am considering using my TF x-mas rivet points to buy the WB Museum figure pictured below but would love to see more develop in these areas in future. I've also posted photos of a few recent ebay items to sort of illustrate what I am hoping to see some day. I am wondering how much interest in these areas some of you have?

These are some of my favorite periods. for some unexplainable reason I am drawn to khaki clad troops. I have been able to find quite a few old glossy Boer war and Sudan troops but it has not been easy

I fully agree with 4th Hussar.....and some of mine are here......
