Hi everyone, One of the most intriguing new Figarti Chicago releases for me was the Bofors gun. I pre-ordered one right away from Treefrog when the first pics of it came in from the show. I received this nice set yesterday, and I must say I'm very happy with it. In particular, the figures are wonderfully sculpted and painted, as you can see in the pics below. The two seated gun operators are glued in to the apparatus, and both stare skyward with believable, realistic expressions unique from one another, as they wheel the gun barrel into position and take aim. The figure loading the gun is not glued down. He comes w/out a base. You can place him where you like, including on the gun carriage where you can simulate loading. His face sculpt is very well done. Whar really stands out to me is that the three faces of each soldier are completely different from one another and really standout as being three different, unrelated individuals. Well done Rick! The gun itself is very nicely done as well, and the platform rotates a full 360 degrees, and the barrel can be raised and lowered to one's liking, although I'm certain straight up will be the default setting for all. When I pount the barrel skyward at its apex, it slips back a bit. I have a piece of foam situated to keep the gun from being subject to gravity, which you can see in the pics, which I will trim down so it's not so obtrusive. The carriage is full of fine detail yet has a firm feel to it; it does not feel fragile. The wheels are fixed in place and do not roll. The weathering is even and subtle, and perhaps slightly more subdued then some recent Figarti offerings, and quite effective. So there you have it, IMHO. It's quite an impressive creation. Well, enough of me, let's let the pics do the talking;):p:)! One thing, I'm having trouble rotating the pics, so please accept my apologies for the horizontal pics that should be vertical (still not entirely Photobucket literate!).

Joe

The figures are glued into the seats. The Bofors belongs to a Quartermaster Unit that was part of the Red Ball Express.:)

Just to be picky, they would be from an AA unit attached to support a QMC unit. In the WW2 US Army AA gunners were trained by the Coast Artillery - unless a QM unit managed to "acquire" a 40mm gun - but these guns were at their best when deployed in batteries with fire control systems.

Still, one heck of a COOL model that is long overdue in this scale!

Thanks Steven. Another Q, are the wheels touching the ground or elevated on the stands/stabilizers?

I am just wondering how this will stack-up with the Moutford Bofors.

Thanks

Elevated on the stands/stabilizers ... I suppose a possible future set is simply the Bofors in a transport mode with the stabilizers up and no crew. One of the cool features is the photo etched gun sights with brackets made from brass ... Rick says this should alleviate the problems with damage to delicate detail parts.
