Bombay Cabinet Hartford Curio Cabinet (1 Viewer)

I just ordered one of the Bombay cabinets today for around $127. There's a sale going on. They're only out of stock online. I may have it by Friday or next Friday at the latest.

I ordered one yesterday at one of their stores. Should be here on Thursday. I saw a few other smaller curios in the store as well. I ended up buying a small table top cabinet that was on sale for 70.00.

Can you provide a link (if not too much trouble). I'd like to see which one you also got.

Nice little Cabinet 9.5 X 9.5 X 19 inches. Might be discontinued because it was 30% off. Good place to display a few special figures.

I received my curio cabinet on Thursday. Took about 1 1/2 hours to assemble. All went well except one of doors didn't quite hang right. So I had to shim it a little. Mine also had a minor scratch on the top, but what do you expect for 127.00 :) I'm really surprised just how well made it is for that money. Even at the regular 200.00 price tag its a nice piece. Once it's all together it looks like it came from an expensive furniture store. Looks great full of figures. I may just have to buy another one.

I'm picking it up Monday or Tuesday and taking the poster you posted. I think Louis had a slight problem with the door on one of his. It had to do with using the wrong screws. I'm also taking the photo you posted to see if they have that.

I finished building this last night (did it over the course of three days). Just need to add the glass shelves and then I'll start adding in soldiers.

The directions are a little confusing so it really helped that I was able to help Louis and my wife in putting one together a few weeks ago. It's actually quite simple to build it but the directions are not well written. Fortunately, this unit had no damage and I'm going to see if I have room for another.

Folks,

Bombay is going out of business so if you get to your local store they might have display cabinets at great prices. I'm trying to get one of their display cabinets which they may have in December. If you're interested in the Hartford, bring alone the photo I posted several months ago because they've closed the on line shop.

Too bad they're going out of business.

That is one great looking display cabinet. Nice colour as well.
Don't you guys find that its worthwhile investing a bit of our toy soldier money on nice cabinets. Choosing the right one for the appropriate range is so much better than simply displaying the figures on, say, a bookshelf.
Just my thoughts for what their worth.:eek:
Cheers

Yes I agree. Bookshelves are worthless. 95% of my collection is in some kind of display cabinet. The main advantage to displaying in a cabinet is NO DUSTING. I can't even imagine having to dust all of those figures. Too bad Bombay is going out of business. They had some nice cabinets at a good price.

I like the idea of a wall mounted cabinet(s) - preferably at eye level. A few years ago I was visiting my mother. She has a friend who had two wall cabinets full of old toy soldiers. Although he was not an active collector, he was proud of them.

Apparently, he had the cabinets made to his specifications. They were great. Wide and not too long, they had swinging glass doors, and backs, and stood at eye level across from each other in entry hallway. The cabinets were not split in two by a piece of wood in the middle, which helped visibility.

Each was probably about three inches deep, so could not have held the bigger vehicles. But very nice for viewing figures.

The cabinets gave the collection an elegance and maturity that I have not always seen. They made the soldiers seem like modest little pieces of art, rather than "toys".

This was in a beautiful mountain house in a very well taken care of home. I dont know how much the cabinets cost to build, but it really was the best display job Ive ever seen - in person or otherwise. The owner is very well to do, and can afford expensive things. He is also works in high society world of high end art, and knows how to do things right.

That might the ticket --- if you could find somebody who'd do a bang uip job and not cost you an arm and a leg.
