Does anyone know of a good book (or other resource) for looking up specifics of WWII Uniforms?

I am getting back into painting figures and spend most of my time with WWII (US and German). So, I am hoping to find a great resource that can show me types of unis, colors, badges, unit specifics, etc.

This would really help me in getting my figures as accurate as possible.

Thanks (in advance)

I like the Osprey series for the projects you mention- in particular, the warrior series.

Aggie99...

I have quite a few books most of which I have got from Worldwartwobooks.com which, is in wales but, if you have a look they have a very good section in both new and second hand etc which cover everything you want and may give you some ideas about what to use. The Osprey as Currahee said are ok but, I find they make a few to many mistakes which they should not do so, I am not really a fan of osprey.

I have a few US books and German ones but, they are all on the site so would waste your time to cite them

Hope it helps
Mitch

One needs to take the Osprey books with a grain of salt - especially older titles. For US stuff their printing process tended to render US Army OD #3 (the light tanish olive) as a medium gray.

For GI stuff, it's hard to beat Windrow's "WW2 GI In Colour Photographs". Not cheap, but a really nice book and well printed. There is also an equivalent volume on the USMC but I am at work and don't have the exact title right in front of me.

I would have to agree on this wholeheartedly. It is an especially good source if you want to see the U.S. uniforms in 'live action' shots.

Also, if you want even more in-depth information, check Histoire & Collections two-volume set "Government Issue: U.S. Army ETO Collector's Guide." While these have only static photos, they are a treasure-trove of information. Everything from uniforms and insignia to every possible item connected with the U.S. Army in WW2. They usually run around $40 each.

I thought RZM kursk range was really good. I am awaiting a new Arnhem book in a similar format in the coming weeks
