Hi guys,

Just wondering if someone who has visited both Bovington and Saumur could answer me, which is the easiest one to visit, departing from their respective capital cities, London and Paris? I will be visiting both cities shortly, and due to time constraints can visit only one of them, so ease of getting there will be the decisive factor.

Carlos Bovington is about a two half hours plus drive from London

I went to the Saumur Tank Museum (Musée des Blindés) several years ago and it's an excellent museum with heaps of WW2 armour as well as armour and vehicles from different time periods. You can get there by train from Paris and I think it takes around a couple of hours each way. The museum isn't far from the Saumur Train Station but I caught a taxi there anyway and it wasn't expensive.

Average time between Paris / Saumur is 2H18
I checked ticket price Paris Saumur and back for today 18 Jan 2019 is 73,50€

London Bovington +/- same price, same time

In both case you have to change train 1 or 2 times depending of the departure time you choose

So consider : travel go and back +/- 6 hours circa 85$ ( for train only )

Why not Paris : https://www.musee-armee.fr/en/english-version.html

In London : check https://www.findingtheuniverse.com/london-military-museums-memorials/#1-Imperial-War-Museum-London

1. Imperial War Museum London
2. Churchill War Rooms
3. Royal Air Force Museum London
4. National Army Museum London
5. National Maritime Museum
6. HMS Belfast
7. Household Cavalry Museum
8. Guards Museum

Best regards

Having had the good fortune to visit Bovington as well as all of the London sites...…………………….if you like tanks, Bovington is unbelievable. I grew up a town north of Aberdeen, Maryland USA which once housed arguably a world famous Ordinance Museum that at one time had Anzio Annie, King Tiger, Jagdtiger, Tiger 1, V2 Rocket, V1 Buzzbomb, you name it, it had it and as a kid it was a mecca, unfortunately, budgets and times killed it. SO, what I am trying to say is that Bovington took me back to my childhood and blew me away with their collection.

They even had recreations of WW1 items that of course are long gone and none were saved! (Full size replicas, some actually working!)
