Considering the SOHK and Imperial collection figures, I'm just wondering if Andy ever considered doing a range covering the Opium wars / Boxer Rebellion? Anybody know if it was on the radar and discounted / put on the back-burner / just never considered? Just curious.

Oh yeah... and is anybody collecting the SOE figures? They hardly get a mention and I wonder if the range is going to be expanded further?

I collect SOE serie and i hope boxer rebellion it would be fantastic: the 55 days of Pekin uniform from every big nation in the world.....waouuuu
Andy please new SOE (gurkha!!! gurkha!!!! gurkha!!!!!!!):p:p and Boxer rebellion:p:p:p

I have SOE and would love to see more additions in the cavalry and would like to see artillery and infantry. -- Al

K & C did Boxer years ago in glossy. Maybe Louis can send me some photos to post this weekend.

Way back in around 1990-91 Andy did glossy K&C Boxer Rebellion.

Here's a quote from volume 3 of the book:

"By 1990-1991, King & Country issued (for $10) a catalogue, consisting of twelve two sided post-cards in a “collectors edition” envelope (on which a Victoria Cross is depicted) with a price list and King & Country “Beginnings” press release featuring a photograph of a young Andy as a Royal Marine in fatigues. . . . Also released in this catalogue are Boxer Rebellion Chinese . . .

The Boxer Rebellion Chinese included BR1, six attacking boxer infantry with shields, axes and choppers ($70), BR2 a Boxer dragon gun and four man crew ($70), BR3, a mounted Boxer officer carrying a dragon triangle flag ($33), and BR4, a mounted Boxer officer carrying a lance ($33). These figures are inspired by Trophy’s Boxer Rebellion line, and are similarly attired in white or black slippers, with (opposite) black or white gaiters, light blue pants, tunics in combinations of red, yellow and orange, and bandanas in various colors or Chinese style (not coolie) hats. The shields are either red with black stripes and white Chinese characters or ochre with stylized angry faces painted on them in black. The officers ride white running horses with greenish gray manes and tails, light blue with dark blue trim saddle blankets and brown saddles. The dragon gun is black with gold decorations on a red gun carriage with silver trim on the wheels."

If you want to see photos of the Boxer Rebellion sets, I can take some shots and ask Brad to post them for me.:)

I have pretty much the entire line of the Trophy Boxer Rebellion series, supplemented with East of India Colonial Series. Both have been around a long while and may be hard to find if you are just starting out. EoI still has some nice Boxer sets available - check out the retail section of this site.

Regarding SOE Andy did mention in conversation he will be adding to the series. For those who like infantry don't forget the Club figures who can form part of a display with the 3 Skinners Horse.

Regarding Boxer Rebellion it was never raised during his visit here and as a dealer I would doubt it is a particularly commercial subject (I too loved the final scene in 55 Days in Peking).

An important point that I questioned was if there would be any new series this year and Andy said no.

Regards
Brett

I sent Brad 9 photos of the K&C Boxer Rebellion figures (1990-91) fighting some early K&C Glossy Seaforths (1984), Indian Army & Royal Artillery (1988) on a diorama built around a K&C wood & papier mache Fort (1997), with a polite request that he post them on this thread.:)

Here are the photos...

Thanks, Brad!:)

FYI, the other figures shown fighting the British forces alongside the Boxer Rebellion troops are K&C Afghan Hill Tribesmen (1988).

All the figures on the diorama depicted are early K&C glossy, produced from 1984 through 1992.

Thanks for posting the pix. Looks awesome. I've been tempted from time to time to buy some of the EoI figures but have resisted thus far. I've got a handful of Trophy boxers which were being sold as individual pieces but I prefer the more realistic matt finish so never moved beyond those shown in the pic.

Re SOE, yes I have been slowly building up a parade based on the club figures. Quite interested to see where this range goes, but K&C just has too many lines to tempt me and I have got to try to maintain focus.

You are very welcome. If you want to see all but about 3 of the glossy figures K&C ever made, you should get a copy of Volume 3 of the King & Country books from www.blurb.com. Or you could come to the 6th Annual New York Toy Soldier Symposium in March, 2011 (where you could see the classic K&C glossy figures in my and Lawrence Lo's collections).
