Anyone see this? Saw it this weekend and thought it quite good. I like most, not all, Tom Hanks movies. Critics said it was "slow." I don't watch super hero movies, so I appreciate a movie based on plot and dialog, such as The Kings Speech. Based on the Gary Powers incident. Chris

I also saw it this weekend, and I really enjoyed it. Tom Hanks does superb job again, and the atmosphere of 1960-61 cold war is perfect, not to mention Berlin, to the point were you even feel cold and oppressed! {eek3}

Tom Hanks was good and there was an authenticity in depicting the period.

Yet, I couldn't sit through the whole thing. I found it boring - I felt I knew the story already and this movie wasn't telling me anything new..

Yes, it sucks to be charged with spying during a cold war.

Geez, after all he did for them you would think the CIA could have arranged a jar of British marmalade to be sent to airport when he got back to USA.{sm4}

As mentioned a bit slow but enjoyed it nonetheless.

If anybody ever makes a movie about Australian Victoria Cross winner Ben Roberts-Smith then the actor who plays Gary Powers would fit the bill. After some serious gym time and fake tatoos.

Forget what I said. Went back and watched it again and WOW! What a wonderful movie!

Fabulous role played by Hanks and the story was extremely heart warming.

Glad I saw it!

I just saw this and I'm not sure why I waited so long because this is a terrific movie. Of all of Speilberg's and Tom Hanks' movies, this is one of my favorites. It conveys the difference at the time between East and West. The one scene that stood out for me was the East Germans trying to escape as they jump the wall and being shot while James Donovan (Hanks) watches from the S Bahn vs the kids in Brooklyn jumping the fence as he heads back to work.

I'm a big fan of LeCarre, in book and film, and this movie was just as good as Tinker Tailor (the series) or The Spy Who Came in From the Cold, with an unforgettable Alec Leamas (Richard Burton).

I agree with the comments below, I saw this on the plane recently and it's an awesome movie. The human element in the story was very well portrayed and as always, Tom Hanks's acting was first rate. I like factual movies based on true events and Spielberg has done a good job on this.

Saw this today and thought it a terrific show. Liked everything about it. -- Al

I liked this movie too. The best part was when Tom Hanks, the pilot and the CIA guy were flying home. The pilot who was suppose to kill himself before capture was pleadingly telling the CIA guy that he didn't reveal any secrets to the Russians. The CIA guy was disgusted. The pilot turns to Tom Hanks, telling him the same thing. Tom Hanks reply's, the important thing is, you know what you did. That's a good life lesson.
