It has fallen to me to start a thread covering the Brisbane K&C Dinner which has just concluded. Hopefully when Howard wakes up in the morning he will post his report here but if not the more threads the merrier.
Those who have attended these dinners in the past will know just how much fun they can be. Good company and a great sense of community made for a very enjoyable evening. On behalf of the collectors present – both those who flew in from interstate and the locals – I would like to thank Brett and Gerrilou for their fine work as hosts. The evening ran like clockwork and anyone who has organised a gathering such as this will understand the work that goes on in the background. Thanks of course must also go to Andy who entertained the audience and communicated both his passion for all things K&C but also the hobby as a whole. It was really interesting to hear him speak as both a collector and a manufacturer. I will leave a fuller report to Howard, but we saw the commandos which are very impressive and some new Light Horse figures which are amongst the best in this very fine series.
Dessert was a birthday cake for K&C marking its thirtieth year of operation. A lucky draw was also something of a highlight – first prize was the Carro Armato M13/40. It is sitting beside me as I type these words, proving once again that good things can happen to moderately good people.

Yes.. thankfully Jack was all so speechless last night after his big win {sm3} A great night with Andy as always, Howard was on hand brimming with high thec gizmos so I will leave the report up to him. I will say that for those of us who collect Great War watch this space :wink2: The Light horse figures are just magic. So all in all the 'Rah Rah Dingo cobblers' had a top evening with one of the true gentlemen in the hobby.
Wayne.

Just knew it was going to be good time for the guests, what with brand new releases, pending releases and the inspirational man behind it all, generously sharing his thoughts on TS's, makes for a perfect night for collectors. Thanks for the photos Wayne, I will visit these many times, until the LH are released in November. Very happy all went well. Robin.

Alright, great info guys. :salute:: Waiting on Howard to see what he puts out :wink2:

Yes an excellent night! So many highlights: seeing the new figures, eating Jack's entree as well as my own, watching Brett be completely at ease behind a microphone, the cake. But the best bit for me was having a post-dinner drink with Andy, Brett, Howard and Jack. (I was so bedazzeled by Andy I almost forgot to buy one for Howard!) Andy is a great conversationalist. I really enjoyed chatting about books (including 'Flashman' - Andy met the author once), military service (my efforts fighting mosquitoes outside Rockhampton didn't quite match being on patrol in Belfast) and of course toy soldiers. I overstayed my 'leave-pass' by two hours!

1. To dazzle so completely as to make blind.
2. To please irresistibly; enchant.

Larso

I also really enjoyed talking to Andy, Howard and Brett but to say that any of the four men I spoke to at the bar 'pleased me irresistibly' is a stretch.

Perhaps, it's because you only had eyes for your new tank. I think everyone on the Forum will agree, you really need some infantry to go with it now. Probably an armoured car too, to do some scouting for it and then so that information can be exchanged between the two commanders. You can put them next to your well! Though a few palm trees are really needed to make it look completely realistic. Maybe an Arab too. With a camel. And a tent. Oh yes, winning this tank is just what you deserved!

I don't collect that series, but I might have to make an exception for that set with the camel!

Well Andy is on the plane down to Sydney and Howard on the plane to Melborne. Unfortunately Andy took his Commandos
with him.

Thanks for the intial report Jack. Please note so far only 9 people from your table have sent me messages appealing the
result of the Luck Draw !! However as Larso so rightly points out you will need some German infantry and then some 8th
Army to oppose them. Next thing you know you will be collecting WW2.

Thanks to all those who attended and to those who helped in the annual winter clean.

For those interested in the prototype of the camel with the stretchers that will be one item and the kneeling and standing
medical guys will be seperate. For Lighthorse fans Andy has ideas for the next two releases and has got plenty of
good feedback for future ideas on that and other series.

Now I am off to bed !!

Regards
Brett
PS As everybody knows it was in Brisbane last year that Andy announced the end of the Arnhem series. No need to panic
this year as he has more Arnhem planned.

What is particularly hurtful about that comment is that of the nine people who complained one is my wife, one is my father and one has been my friend for 25 years. Is there no loyalty anymore?

Jack,
Actually Marg said you should have got the Chinese ladies (however she hid her disappointment well as she "appeared"
to be quite happy you won a tank last night), your Dad thought Dad's Army Mummy's boy was the obvious choice and Larso was just appealing the whole concept that your name was even entered.

Wayne WA. you will be interested to know what the "booby" prixe was. I advertised it is as the prize not to win.
However some in the room apparently thought I was bluffing when I suggested it might not be a good prize. 2nd last drawer had a
choice of two Chinese musician ladies (RRP about $100) or the secret booby prize. They chose the booby prize which was
a 2008 edition of POM magazine which I bought after Wayne mentioned it on the forum about 5 years ago and which I
found in the shop (a customer brought it in, honest). Aimed at the Brit in Australia and now probably a rare collectors item
(Not).

Well Marty, at least you have matched Waynepoo and you now have got an AK tank although Wayne's is an actual Jerry tank!

Great evening everyone, it was good catching up with all the "dingoes" and thanks again to Brett for organizing the event and for Andy coming to Brissy to meet everyone and to tell us what's on the horizon and show us some sneek peeks at the new releases.

Boys and Girls, (referring to Margie, Jack)
Just got home after the flight from Brisbane. I will download Andy's Q&A session from my tape recorder tomorrow and post. I had a quick preview. Its a big scratchie as Andy had a remote mike and moved away from the recorder quite often. I will try and decode and decipher the session and post asap.
Many thanks to all that attended and also to Brett and Gerelou for a great two days. Chewing the fat with the Brissy boys after weeks earlier having done the same things with the Texans and UK wild ones has been a highlight of this year to date.
Cheers Howard

Hey Howard, spot on my friend. These events are what this hobby is about, meeting real friends and real GENUINE people and sharing this superb hobby of ours. When I joined THIS forum some years ago I had no idea I would end up making and meeting so many good friends and fellow collectors. Glad you had a blast Howard and when can we expect you back mate?! (there's loads more Castles waiting for you you know!{sm4})

Best to all

Rob
