Cheers!
This may have surfaced at one time but this is my rookie posting. I have read descriptive text for the Britains Strike Attack Sets 17595 & 17596 from various web sites stating the figures are from...

"Lieutenant Colonel Robert G. Cole distinguished himself with 3rd Battalion, 502 Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division, during combat operations on June 11, 1944 in France..."
AND THEN AGAIN
"The 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment Seizes Goronne, Belgium. Battle of the Bulge, 7 January 1945."

Without seeing them in person-are they from the Summer or Winter campaign? Any official word or opinions would be appreciated.

I believe they are depicting the summer campaign. Anyways, I'm no Britains-expert either...

BTW, welcome to the forum! I hope you'll have a good time here, and that you'll learn a whole lot about the world of toy soldiering...

Are you by chance a Big Fan of the 502 Parachute Infantry Regiment of the 101st? My wife's father was with 502 E Co. from start to finish and made home.

Hi Guys,

Britains questions at last!

The Strike Attack sets came out in 2005 and were from the Art of War series they dipict the aforementioned LTC and some of his troopers fighting a close combat fight with the defenders of the Douve River Crossing site on the way Carentan in June of '44.

Hope this answers the question.

Dave

Cheers Everyone:

Many thanks for taking the time to respond to my inquiry-all of which was very much appreciated. I was hopping somehow that set was related to the "BULGE" but no such luck. Looks like I have the Toy Soldier VIRUS & it is not going away! Write & talk to all of you sometime soon. YES Chuck, I love the history of all the 101st PIR with a passion. Many thanks again for the 101st Airborne Division CD/DVD. I take it with me when I am on the road to provide sanity time-it also makes me realize how lucky we are.

There was a game made of the events of the first three days. Road to hill (something?) Its very accurate every house the crossing the foot bridge etc! The history channel ran a show that had origonal footage and the games scree shots etc. Again just about every detail was in it! The set is frome Dietz as mentioned and the painting shows the men advancing over a bridge?

The story is the 502 was caught on a causeway, with a flooded field on one flank and Falscherimjagers hold out in the farm houses on their other flank. they suffered huge casualities over the course of the day trying to move down this road. Even the Luftwafa got in on the act and a couple of Stutkas hit the 502! The day ended with most of the 502 lying on the cause way or very near it. The following morning the commander of the 502 decided they could not sit still and be cut apart so he ordered to fix bayonets and charged the farm house!;) As they say the rest is history!

I'm a big fan of the 101 parachute infantry division I think what they did was just amazing and I honor them for that aspect. I'm sure you are very proud of your father and what he did for this country. I also have a family member that was in the 101st but, he was in vietnam, he was a door gunner on a huey.

Mitch

It was my wife's father. Your family member had an exposed position and was subject to direct fire aimed at him personally. Not a job I would have wanted.
