I am looking for this set and have found several . My question is some have the khaki helmets to match their uniforms and some have a white helmet...Which is correct for Sudan War? Also, is the white helmet set an oddity? Thanks, Michael

Hi,

You pose and intereseting question. I am not sure why they are with available with two colored helmets. I have seen both for sale and hadnt put the thought into it. It could be the ones in white helmets are a limited edition but I am not going to say they are for sure. Hopefully one of the other Britains collectors will know the reason. As for which is correct for the Sudan I would lean towards the Khaki helmets.

I will keep looking for info on this question

All the best

Dave

I have the set with khaki helmets which I believe are correct. Several other manufacturers (e.g., Trophy & Alymer) have used khaki on their versions. I have never seen the Britains set in white.

I think that the british army started using kahki uniforms in Sudan after 1885. So I guess it just depends on which battle. Though I am not definite because I think I read that on wikipedia and the information on that site is not always correct.

My old friend Martin Tabony made two figures (officer & trooper) of the 21st at Omdurman for Toy Soldier & Model Figure magazine. Martin is a former cavalryman and one of the finest sculptors of British soldiers – he takes his research seriously. He has them with the Khaki helmet

:) Right O' about his time major reforms were made in the British Army including uniform styles. The Sudan campaigne came on the cusp. Most field uniforms were issued new in the kakhi style. However some Battalions still in the field or on overseas duty didn't get cut in until later.
