Britains Castle (1 Viewer)

Hello,

I have a hand painted castle from the 70s that originally came with Britains toy soldiers (Knights and Saracen). Sadly, the soldiers have been lost to time and a few moves. However, the castle is in very good shape (two working drawbridges and a removable tower) and I am considering putting it up for sale on ebay or elsewhere since I have no real use for it.

What I need to know is how to value it. I know it is rare but I cannot find much of any information on the net concerning it. Can anyone help me with this?

I don't know if I can post a pic on this forum or not. If so, I can add one to help.

Lacking any further information, I have put it on ebay (item #140331504510) and there are 12 pictures included in the listing. If anyone would like to take a look at the pictures and provide any information to me concerning it, I would appreciate it.

Hi Byron,

Welcome to the forum. I just had a look at your listing and unfortunately that is not a Britains castle. The Britains ones were square and quite flimsy and would definitely be labelled Britains. I think what you have is an Elastolin/Hausser castle. Good luck with your sale.

Scott is right, what you have there is a castle mady by Elastolin Hausser from Germany. The catalog no. is 9734 and it was made during the late 60's up 'til the early 70's.
The price it will sell for is highly depending on the condition. Are the two drawbridges functional? Are there any holes in the plastic body?
Elastolin Hausser produced a variety of castles in that time, small and large, this specific one is probably the largest one.
The scale, in my opinion is a bit to small for the most popular 1/32 scale of modern Toy Soldiers. I think most of their castles were specifically aimed towards their 40mm (1 5/8") series of medieval figures, with a few exceptions that were made for their 70mm series and are much sought after by today's collectors.
As a wild guess, I would say that you can expect a high bid of somewhere between $80.00 to $120.00, if that in the current economical situation.
My guess is made up from a time a few years ago when I kept watching Elastolin auctions on ebay.

Thank you very much, guys! I will change the information on ebay to reflect this.

As a side note, I really like the castle--it is in excellent condition (the drawbridges work) and is very detailed. I just don't have a lot of use for it right now and it is taking up some serious space in my small storage area.

Well, someone snatched the castle up for the "Buy It Now" price of $150. I'm excited and a little sad. They don't make them like that anymore IMHO and I'm a little sorry to see it go. Hopefully the guy that got it is a collector and will take excellent care of it!

Elastolin Hausser made very nice castles and figures and I am sure the new owner will appreciate it.
