Britain's Chicago 2014 (1 Viewer)

Hi All,
Wonderful new figures from Britain's (great photo's) . This is my first post as a Treefroger, but I have been a visitor for a while. I now have more "time on my hand's" and look forward to participating on this very interesting forum.

Here is hopefully a better photo of the WW I trenches. Very nice.

H & A are alive and well. They had product and were selling things. They had several nice buildings suitable for WW I and II, as well as other French houses, roads with damage, fences, trees and so forth.

Brad

Did they happen to mention when they well be back on line for orders?

I had the opportunity to speak with Ken about WWII. It's sounds very exciting. Although Ken was unable to provide specifics, Britains will have releases involving PTO. Marines, vehicles, probably a Jeep, after securing licensing agreement with Chrysler. Even perhaps some limited Japanese. Ken's predecessor, Richard, talked a good game for years about WWII but released very little under his watch. I think Ken is going to bring WWII collectors some long desired/needed products. I ask all interested collectors to keep inquiring and demonstrate interest.

I think I saw a few WW II items but neglected to get photos.

I for one am not very keen for WB to pursue WWII as there are so many makers who already do that
There focus is wars of the 18-19 th Centuries and perhaps the early part of the twentieth century
If they focus on the Pacific theatre which seems to be neglected by most manufacturers then I can see them having an impact but we really have enough Tiger Tanks out there already

When I talked to Ken at the Toronto Toy solider show he hinted that it would be European based and I assumed it would be later in the war.

Interesting
It is such a crowded market place
Still obviously a popular one
Just hope they don't forget the colonial wars.

i think you are right damian, they should pursue something like the boxer rebellion or northwest frontier

Britains is owned by a larger company. I can just imagine Ken being asked by his bosses or the Board of Directors what he was doing to take advantage of the lucrative WW II market and Ken answering, "Oh, it's too crowded. We're going to focus on a not so crowded area. Of course, the profits may be much smaller." Ken might not be at Britain too much longer.

That's not a market you can simply ignore. You do it at your peril.

I think you have to look from a dealer perspective as they are the ones selling the line. My guess unless you are a big enough dealer to support multiple lines besides wbritains than you would be losing customer wallet to other dealers. My local dealer is primarily a wbritains dealer but sure enough I have to go elsewhere if I want ww2 items. The key for wbritains will be finding a niche as Ken mentioned late ww2 Europe to me that means something like the battle of the bulge or less likely arnhem. The fact that Ken says he already has 20 figs mocked up for this new line means there will be sufficient mass right from the start... I think it is a gamble that wbritains (first gear) needs to take despite the fact others are already entrenched with successful ww2 franchises...

Good points on reentering WWII. WB has been out of it for a while except a few niche lines like the Dam Busters. I think that as long as the price point is around what it is now and the sculpting is as good as their other lines they will be well received! I look forward to seeing what they come up with.

We will have to wait and see
But it is a really crowded market place and they did try in 2006 to enter it and were not successful
The one niche is that their figures will be smaller than most other manufacturers except I suppose for First Legion so that may appeal to those who are new to the game
Will be interesting
I look forward to more AZW and WAN stuff but wish them well with this new venture

I agree but where do They get those beautiful tall trees that are in thir ACW and FIW diorama. They are fine looking giant old trees with tall trunks. Do they market those or are they scratch built for Diorama only. I would definetly throw some money at them to acquire some.

Hello,

Ah, the trees. Those trees, those very time-consuming trees are hand-made, hand-painted branch by branch, which is why we only use them in our custom dioramas. If I could figure out a way to make them quicker / easier and still look as good so we could sell them individually I would... :)

Ericka,
I was afraid of that. I have never seen Old growth timber of that scale anywhere. It brings the forest to life very realistically. I think you could get a good price on them individually if you could teach the Chinese your technique. I am already paying a pound price for commercial trees and they are not near the scale of yours. WOW for the FIW it really does the trick. I think you should forget WWII and look into expanding your tactical stuff with those beautiful trees. NOW THAT IS A THOUGHT.
