Gentle Friends,

As most of you know, I prize diversity in my collection. I collect old figures, new ones, and everything in between. My interest in diversity results in some lines, manufactures, and eras being emphasized more than others. Among the many areas I would like to expand are figures representing the Crimean War. There are many manufacturers from which to choose, but, so far, I have only added a few Britains sets to my collection. In time, I am certain I will draw from several manufactures to build the Crimean War section of my collection. As I slowly do so, I will try to share pictures of the additions to my collection.

One set in particular has always captured my imagination. It is the W. Britain set #00168, Crimean War Series, the Russian Infantry. I have admired this set ever since it was first released in 1999 and I have only recently acquired it (Whew! At last!)

Below, you should find a picture of the complete set of eight figures. The set includes figures in four different poses. I am thrilled to finally have this set in my collection and I hope you enjoy viewing it.

Warmest personal regards,

Pat

Those are very nice looking soldiers. I'm curious, do you have many of the newer VC Britains Crimea items, and if so how do these older guys look next to the newer ones? I have one of each of the newer sets and am considering adding a second russian cannon set and multiples of the russian figure sets and various light brigade figures to display a larger scene. Richard and co. had a nice display along these lines at the Chicago show this Fall incorporating some old books which I thought was a nice touch. Thanks for sharing.

Pat,

Like yourself I am collecting Crimean War figures (but from K&C) and I like this set from Britains alot. Have you got the eight piece French Zouaves set as well?

Thanks for sharing yet more of your collection.

Jeff

Great photos, they do show nicely how good this set is, did not know it was so good. Another nice manufacturer for this period is Monarch Regalia, take a look at one Monarch set combined with an Imperial one on the Imperial photos thread.

Hi Mister Dave,

No, unfortunately, I do not have any of the Britains VC Crimean items. What few Britains Crimean War figures I have are all earlier production items. If someone provides you with the answer to your question, please share it with us. I am interested to learn the same information.

Warmest personal regards,

Pat :)

Hi Jeff,

If you are referring to the French Zouaves set that was issued in the late 1990s, no, I do not own that set. However, I do own Britains set #142, French Zouaves, which was issued (actually re-issued) in 1948. The two sets are similar in many respects.

If you want to see the figures in Set #142, keep an eye on the "Visiting Yesteryear" thread. My French Zouaves will make an appearance there before too very long.

Good luck with your Crimean War collection. It is certainly a very interesting subject to collect. When and if you have the time, I would love to see pictures of your collection!

Warmest personal regards,

Pat :)

Hi VIRIATO,

Thanks for your comments! I have always admired this set, but until I actually had it in my hands, I did not fully realize how nice it actually was. As I said earlier, I am thrilled to have this set in my collection!

I appreciate what you are saying concerning the Monarch Regalia Crimean figures. I am entirely too familiar with those figures and they are incredibly beautiful! Frequently, I gaze at them on line and hope to add some of them to my collection one day. However, before I begin to purchase the Monarch Crimean figures, I want to complete my collection of Monarch Regalia Samurai figures. As others have said before me, there are so many choices and so little budget! :D

Warmest personal regards,

Pat :)

I will occasionally see these older Britains sets up for sale on Ebay, though have never bid on them. I did briefly own some Frontline Russian figures which were nice, though almost a head taller than the rest of my Crimean War figures, so I eventually sold them. Maybe someone else could chime in on the compatability of older and newer Britains Russian figures.

I think the new Britains Crimean figures and all of the new gloss figures are sculpted in a different style. The new figures have more detail and are more realistic while the older ones are more toy like.

Yes, I know what you mean. I just could not resist the Monarch 93rd Highlanders, even if I don't collect Crimean War, I joined them with the Imperial set which I had bought about 2 years before. For now I have other priorities, but these Monarch figures are really quality stuff.

Yo Troopers, re Crimean War set 00168, this is my little set up of the "Charge Of The Light Brigade" bottom shelf, like everyone starting to look for more room for the rest of my cavalry. You can see the set of Russians with Britains & Steadfast cannons.
Bernard.

Bernard,
That looks like an extremely nice display. Thanks for sharing it with us.
Cheers

Love those tight cherry red trousers. Must have been quite thrilling for a young Victorian maiden to catch a glimpse of a pair of those astride a prancing stallion in Hyde Park. Must have made a few of them come over faint if you know what I mean there trooper.
Great display

Pat,

That was the set I meant, you now need to get that as well then ;).

I have already posted some photo's on the K&C Crimean War Figures thread (I didn't want to re-post them here as this is on the Britains forum) but I don't know how to post a 'Link' to it.

I agree about the interest in this period of history, it's certainly attracting manufacturers and collectors alike.

Jeff

Yo Trooper Jeff, thanks mate, you dont miss much. Ye must be a cavalry man seeing the heavies, pity cannot put a bigger photo up, see Raglan, Lucan, Cardigan, & Billy Brittain the bugler they are really good. Had them made special.
Bernard.
