Britains deetail german afrika korps conversions (1 Viewer)

Hi

started work on these conversions mainly using the standard Britains Deetail German Infantry and German Afrika Korps and swopping the heads over. Quite easy really as this plastic type allows glueing without having to pin the two halves of plastic involved.

The German Infantry boots I will shave down slightly at the fronts and laces painted on instead to represent the high desert boots worn at the start of the campaign.

I have read up on the uniforms and although most uniforms were olive green upon arrival in North Africa they became faded due to the intense sun into many shades down the scale to pale stone and sandy colours which is good for creating variety. The Helmets were painted a light tan but again there were variations.

photos attached - really straightforward job creating some variety to the standard poses.

I have left the bases as was in original Deetail colours but I suppose they could be repainted and/or based

I really like what you did with your old Deetail pieces...I am also a big fan of the old Britains Deetail & a huge fan of the Afrika Korps...I was doing the same thing to my old deetail stuff awhile back...Here are a few of my pic's of redone Deetail pieces...

Kudos on some great jobs on the figures. It makes me regret not getting any of them back in the day - particularly as I am beginning to paint my 1/32 collection. Y'all have really made superb figures even better.

yes they are really well detailed and proportioned figures especially these WW2 types which I believe were sculpted by Ron Cameron in 1970-71.

They can be easily converted and I dont even have to pin the parts together as this plastic glues solid. The good thing is that many that I convert are found as damaged or incomplete figures at collectors fairs (I get them very cheap as a result), so I am giving them a new lease instead of them lanquishing in the bottom of a shoebox for many years.

My next lots are Deetail British infantry which will be converted to Commandos by giving them the Airfix set comforter cap and will probably add a few backpacks and other equipment to bulk them up a bit.

Some may prefer the base left as original but it could be based and vegetation/mud or sand added

Even back in the day I always wondered why Britain's gave the Motorcycle driver a Garand rifle instead of a Mauser.That was the first thing I used to trim off.And did German motorcycle troops really wear that Sailor Collar?Most pictures I've seen they are wearing coats.PS there is a Britain's Cowboy figure also with a Garand!!
