G'd evening fellow collectors! I bought the Irish Coach a while ago (plus the escort), and have always wanted to gradually gather the other coaches (corronation, PM's, Queen Somethingafrican's, and the landau), in addition to the grooms and footmen (and any other attendants), as well as a band or two (Gordons + ?) and some officials and RMPs. HOWEVER, I have no idea what is in this series, and would like to find a consolidated database or list w/pictures. Anyone know of such a thing? Even a book containing the items in this series?
Thanks for any help,
Sandor:salute::

The book by Norman Joplin lists all the sets needed to make up the full Golden Jubilee series. I did think about collecting it but there are quite a few sets that are not easy to get a hold of now so decided not to bother.

Thanks for the idea (now I HAVE to get the book ^&cool). I'm not going for the whole thing either, but Britains of that era did make the BEST coaches, as well as the worst systems of traces. Richard/Ken- any coaches in the works?

The Jubilee Series began in 2002:

WOW!Thank you so much! Personally, I will only be getting the caches and the groom sets, as well as some assorted pieces that I fancy.
Thanks again,
Sandor

Hi Dave,

I am really glad you posted the Golden Jubilee checklist! It contains and summarizes incredibly useful information. Thanks for going to the effort to organize and post the information. Unfortunately, it gives me entirely too many ideas. ^&grin

Warmest personal regards,

Pat :)

FYI The Irish State Coach carried Elizabeth the Queen Mother and Princess Margaret to the Coronation. So the 2 female figures would be appropriate however it was pulled by 4 horses and driven from the box. So not exactly accurate.

I think that set actually is for the State Opening of Parliament. Why there are 2 ladies though I do not know (lady in waiting perhaps?) and where is Prince Phillip?

Hi Guys,

Always glad to help you in your collecting dilemas!{sm4}

I hope some one out there has this whole display and will show us some time! I keep pecking away at various sets and figures so who knows maybe someday down the road I will be the one showing it off...

High you all,
I'm collecting every set existing or made for me on a special order on this subject since the start of it in 2002. The W Britain's sets were bought at the time as a member of the Britain collectors club. But a whole bunch of the colonies, who marched in the 1953 coronation procession, have never been produced by Britains. That void was/is filled by ASSET Miniatures with a rather extensive range on this subject, including all the UK regiments that participated. On the photo below you can see that Britains, ASSET and RP World Models fit Wonderfull well together. Some of the Britains collector club sets are still available from MKL and other sellers through eBay.

Wow... looks like the request was granted a few years after the fact! {sm4}

Peter- do you have more pictures, especially of the Britains?

Hello Sander,
I have included some pictures with the theme "1953 Coronation Procession". In the coming weeks I'll make photos of all the Britain sets that I have. I do not have the Britains Gentlemen at Arms, Gold Coast regiment and Royal Marines sets. I have replaced these with ASSET sets. In my glass vitrine I have 9 layers with the Coronation Procession in all covering 21 meters. I have a photo of this vitrine which will be part of the next bunch of photos with the Britains sets.

Top left in red tunics the band of the Life Guards as part of the London band including the band of the London Yeomanry and the pipes and drums of the London Scottish. On the left you see the street liners RAF at attention and in the distance the water boat men.
Top right partly visible the Jubilee coach.
Bottom left the Irish State Coach with the Queen Mother and Prinses Margret. In the front the street liners Sandhurst cadets at present arms.
Bottom right in the middle the Gloucestershire regiment and part of the regimental band of the 7th Hussars.
With kind regards,
Peter

Seeing your wonderful procession raises a question: what is the precedence for parades? I know that the senior service (probably RN in this case) goes first followed by regiments in ascending order. But what about within a regiment? Colours, band, officers, other ranks, or what? Someone told me that the colours detachment has the flags (officers) followed by three colour guards . . . is this correct? What if there are three flags like in the Frontline HLI ceremonial set? Your comments would be appreciated.

Hello,
A lot of questions but I’ll try to answer them.
About the Coronation Procession, which followed immediately after the Coronation. The only way to really know who participated and in which column and in which order can be found in the library of the HQ of the Commanding General London District. I have Googled this subject but could not find a (readable) marching order. More and better information I found on YouTube! From the videos I learned that the Captains Escort did not included the mounted band of the Household Cavalry in State Dress but that in front of the First Division of the Life Guards the Regimental Band of the Welsh Guards was positioned and in front of this band the companies of the Welsh Guards. Which makes sense, as Queen Elisabeth II before becoming Queen was the Princess of Wales. Probably many of the mounted band horses were used for the mounted escorts for all those horse drawn coaches that brought distinguished guests from and to Buckingham Palace. Another example is the marching detachment of majors/Lieutenant-Colonels followed by Colonels and junior Generals on Horse Back of the armed forces lead by the Royal Navy then the Army and at the end the Royal Air Force. And all socking wet!
In my Coronation Procession however I have my own rules. Surely I have looked at seniority and how they actually paraded in June 1953 but on the other hand I wanted to use Britains sets that otherwise would have hanged in the air. So, my Captains Escort does include a mounted band namely Britains sets 5195 and 5295 and in number 1 Dress.
As to the position of the Colour party (or Standard Party for cavalry regiments), the following. The order at the march is the Regimental Band followed by the Colour Party with escort. The Colour Party is in the midst of the escort; half escort, Colour Party (With 1, 2 or 3 Colours), half escort. The only personnel in a “free” position are the Commander of the Colour Party and Escort and the Battalion or Regimental Sergeant Major. All other officers and NCOs have a fixed position.
The order at the halt, facing the distinguish person(s), is the same but the band and often the pipes & drums (or corps of drums or rank of file) are then standing behind the Colour Party and escort.
If the regiment has a Mascot with Mascot Handler, they march in front of the band.
Other regiments with 3 Colours I know of, are the Gordon Highlanders and the Royal Fusiliers.
With kind regards
Peter

Great looking display and at 21 meters its a big one! Thanks for sharing and answering the questions posted. I know that I have run in to the problem of who was first etc with the Durbar display I have and also with the filling out of Brigades with the units that arent as common. Lots of fun to make what you can find work for your individual display.

Dave

Peter . . . Thank you for your information re parade formations. It's quite complete in IMHO and will be put to use when my own parade (ca 1914) is set up. (Don't hold your breathe!)
