Britains Heavy Howitzer re-make (3 Viewers)

Amongst my stash of figures to repair, I came across two identical figures - although both were damaged. The figure(s) in question, were originally JoHillco Air Fore Mechanics - unmistakable with gigantic spnner held in the left hand. Trouble was - one was missing his head, whilst the other had a head, but was missing both legs.

The answer to this problem, of course, was to remove the head from one damaged piece - and graft it on to the other one - who would then be a complete figure. Here's a pic below of the successful transplant ( for one - at least!).

Well okay - but what has this to do with the plot so far????

I decided that my mechanic would be transferring form the Airforce, into the Royal Engineers - as surely one of my vehicles would require a service every now and then - especially one with a great big spanner! And as I had a nice clean casting - out with the paints - and here he is, a Royal Engineer in his lovely little side-hat, with Albert ( my Steam Tractor driver), having a quiet chat about - well, um.{sm2}..............Steam Tractors of course.{sm4}

Being retired, I have the luxery of scanning blogs to see what might be of interest. This morning I stumbled upon the Great War section of the IPMS/UK . . . ipmsuk.org/directory/great-war/. Above the modereator's name you'll find a link asking if you want to visit their website. Click on it. Then click on "newsletter" in the lower left corner. This will bring up over 20 issues that you can download. The 2017 issues (and perhaps the last couple of issues od 2016) have some interesting articles on steam traction . . . perhaps this is where Johnny got his inspiration! While most of the material over the years focuses on WW1 aviation, there are enough articles relating to our interests to make the issues worth reading. I downloaded and saved them for future reference. Only problem is that some of the links don't work, but that can be overcome by Googling the company name.

Thanks for that link Al - also being retired, I'll take a look when I have 5 mins or so!

I'm afraid my inspiration came not from reading stuff - but actually seeing the beasts at a County show (originally), then some more video-clips - and then, sheer jealousy - at some of the members on here who had several - and I didn't.

To put it simply - I just darned well wanted one.

I was determined also to get hold of a Britains Big Howitzer - and link the two together. Even better - I wanted to find some parts from broken ones - and rebuild which is best of all fun, for me. Well............I eventually got my wish - and the rest you have seen Al.

I also have quite a stash of WW1 figures, in various states of dis-repair - which I'm steadily working through - as shown with that little RE guy with the spanner, which might add more interest to my collection. We shall see how it all turns out though - as it very much depends on what turns up in the next job-lot.

Great fun. jb

I know it's a bit late in the thread - but I just found some pics of the bottom half of my Howitzer on my camera's memory. I thought that i had lost them!

Well, here they are - as found!
